I bought a WF600 (B3) in .22 from Canada Shooting Supply in Whitby, ON. $109.99 on sale with free shipping. I ordered it on a Monday, received it Wednesday. It was double boxed. It was a pleasure dealing with these guys.

Like most B3s, it looks good, but needs work to make a good shooter. Before i shot it even once, a full teardown was needed. I pulled the mainspring and thought it looked unusual compared to my other two B3s.
Here's a pic of the (short) spring that came in the gun, compared to a new spring from a B3 rebuild kit. The short spring is 30 coils of .115" wire. The long spring is 34 coils of .118" wire. The full power crosman B18 spring is 34 coils of .122" wire, and fits in a B3. I installed the spring from the rebuild kit.


Next item on the agenda was replacing the plastic spring guide. I made one from solid 6061 aluminum. I had to start with a 1.5" diameter which meant hogging off a lot of stock.

Nice write ups, are you also gonna put a thrust bearing and polish the internal barrel?

I got it assembled. It sounded bloody awful cocking, like pulling chains over concrete blocks. Could not figure out why until I looked at the foot of the cocking lever. It sat too deep and was rubbing on the spring. I filed it down and the problem disappeared. I cleaned the brown goo out of the barrel and wiped away all the Chinese mystery oil that seemed to be everywhere except where it was supposed to be.
I lubed everything with moly, including the trigger sear, which incidently did not need stoning. It was a much better made sear assembly compared to my other 2 B3s. The entire trigger assembly was identical to my other B3-1 and B3-3. The trigger turned out the best of all my B3s.

The compression tube did not need honing. Both my other B3s had compression tubes with rust corrosion inside the tube. Not exactly conducive to good velocity or seal longevity, so those were honed out with a brake cylinder hone, using my lathe.

Chronograph testing showed 495 fps with Crosman Premium Hollow Points, with a few going 502-503. I doubt the factory spring would give 400 fps. I did not try the oem spring in the gun.

My B3-1 with a rebuild kit spring shoots 650 fps with 7.9gr pellets, so this gun at 500 fps in .22 is in the same ball park.

Lastly, the fibre optic sights are great. My old eyes cant see open sights anymore, but I just might leave this with open sights.

I made a top hat, polished the spring ends on a 1x42 belt sander and molyed up the spring ends. The spring can rotate easily.
The inside of the main tube looks smooth enough. A little moly worked OK.

I now have four plastic spring guides for a B3 that I don't need. If anyone here has a B3 with a broken guide, you can have one or more for the cost of shipping.

Nice work on the spring guide. I wonder about the contact between aluminum and steel though, will the spring end deform the aluminum bearing surface? Or is there a steel washer for that?

I made a piston head/ top hat combo out of aluminum and used a delrin bushing to protect the aluminum surfaces. Going to test that today.

Aluminum seems so soft when it's machined! I use a flat steel washer/spacer with moly between surfaces. I was originally leery of using aluminum for a spring guide as I expected the spring to deform the aluminum or worse, scrape off bits of aluminum to float around and mess things up. My other two B3s have aluminum spring guides. Both have been shot a lot, with no sign of a change in performance. I have not had them apart since I installed the aluminum guides. I tried aluminum since it's so easy to machine, and I have quite a bit of 1".

I made some spacers of various sizes for @Tcooper when he was modding his optimus'. I can't remember if I made them out of aluminum or steel. Maybe he'll chime in...

I bet with an aluminum guide as long as the spring is smooth and has no sharp edges, you shouldn't get any chips. Maybe oxidizing from the aluminum in the form of a powder.

Aluminum is very nice to machine, I have found. After learning on steel first. Gotta learn the hard way, get better results :lol:

I just received my H&N pellet order.
Target on the right is Crosman Premier Hollow Points, 14.3gr at 490fps.
Target on the left is H&N Sport wadcutters, 13.7gr at 500fps.
Both are 5 shot groups at 21 meters. Groups were shot 5 minutes apart this morning. +10C and sunny, light breeze. Front bag only.
Once tuned, these Chinese under levers are surprisingly accurate. Unfortunately, the .177s (being PAL rated) are almost impossible to find in Canada.

Hey, hard to beat those H&N groups. You have made yourself a nice shooter!
Wadcutters at 21 m at that. Have you tried some JSB exact RS in that gun, they may do even better than the wads.

When my aged eyeballs get a group like the one on the left, I'm more surprised than anybody. I tried the Sports in my Phantom at 650fps. They shot well, but I don't think they like going that fast that far. I got some H&N Field Target too. Haven't tried them yet. I'll be ordering some JSBs next. Guess I'll be shooting more .22...

Thanks for this, I may be buying some of these.

Funny tho, I'm good for .22, I'm stocking up on .177.

I don't usually get wadcutters but I'm looking for a pellet close to 8 gn

I weighted the new H&N Finale wadcutter I newly bought. Both Heavy and Light are at 8gn which it stated as 8.18g and 7.87g... However when loading the Heavy obviously tighter than the Light...

Woah! Do you have a good "dealer's" scale YepYep? H&N pellets should be good to at least the one decimal place so if you're getting 8.0 gr as opposed to 8.2 and 7.9 gr then something isn't right, my fist guess would be your scale.
