Post subject:  2240 to 2260 main tube conversion - help?

My parts just arrived for changing my 2240 tube over to a 2260 tube, but I'm a touch confused

My fill rod that I was sent is just a straight rod, but the photos/videos I saw of 2260 breakdowns showed the fill rod having a round spacer about an inch or so from the end (assuming it's to stabilize the rod in the tube).
This part appears already attached on the 2260 parts list diagram, and doesn't have a separately numbered part that I could locate. Is this needed? Does it have a part number?

Also - how exactly do you attach the new rod to the end cap? Just tap it in with a hammer?

Thanks for any answers!

I had forgotten that the 2260 rod had a collar pressed onto it.... I have no idea if it has a separate part number, but it would not be too hard to make one.... Take a piece of 3/4" ODaluminum, drill a hole in the center of the correct diameter to slide over the rod, and cut off a slice about 1/4" thick.... then press it on.... You will have to sand the outside down a few thou to fit inside the tube....

If you're lucky, you might even find a washer that you can slide over the rod but not the splines.... press it on and if the OD is too big, spin the rod in a drill and file the outside down to fit loosely inside the 2260 tube....

I ended up using a rubber mallet to hammer the end cap onto the splines on the end of the rod - slow going but worked a charm and straightened itself out nicely.

I don't have metal turning tools but I do have most woodworking tools in the shop.
I'll likely take the rod to the hardware store and look for a washer as suggested, rather than turning an aluminum collar.

Decided to give it a try without the collar, it still works and hold gas all night - but I do think the collar would make the rod much more stable.
Upon removing the cartridge, it was pierced slightly off-center but still pierced fully and shot without issue.

I hammered my cap onto the rod today, in place of the missing centering piece I wrapped electrical tape around the rod till it was a slightly loose fit in the tube. Half assed but it will do for now, doesn't seem like it even needs it.
