Hello
I recently got my air pistol meat hooks on a HY-SCORE Sportster. Besides a bit of rubbed off blueing it looked in pretty good shape. But when I got it home, I couldn’t get the sear to engage. This is what I found, the cocking shoe was worn out. Seeing as this pistol was only made from 1952-1954, it had 70 years shooting, and the shoe sure shows it.

I got lots of great information on dissassembly from this link https://forum.vintageairgunsgallery.com ... trip-down/
I recognized LeonardJ’s name in the instructions, great guy. I bought a LP53 off him a few years back. It’s still shooting great by the way.
I soon realized that finding a new shoe would be unlikely, so I fired up my mill.

I had lots of fun making the new shoe,it took 2 tries at the pin to get it right.

I was able to get a new mainspring for it and also replaced the piston o ring with the recommended size from the dissassembly instructions.

After some fine tuning,it cocks nice and smooth, and the sear engages!

It feels great bringing a piece of history back to working order.
Ps I’ve got the .177 & .22 barrel, on the lookout for the bb barrel.
I chronographed it , 7gr .177 shoots 400ft/sec. 14.3gr.22 shoots 310ft/sec

Cheers

Thank you for the kind words. :)

You did a phenomenal job of fabricating the new cocking shoe.
Congratulations on a job well done.

Hi Didd.

Nice work on your repair.

I can say that is a good feeling when it pis ossible to give new life to an old vintage airgun that is not working.

I spent the best part of the last two weeks working on a pair of Crosman 622 and on a pair of Crosman Mark 1. I was able to solve all the problems except for a stubborn rolled spring pin that didn't want to get out on the piercing assembly of one of the Mark1. In this case the small oring could be accessed from the other end and I was able to complete the repair.

Now those 4 airguns are working as they should and the only left is to enjoy them.

R-Gun Pete
