I just picked up a new toy for the gun safe....a Czech made VZ-58L rifle. It looks quite similar to the AK-47 but it's a completely different design and it is classified as non-restricted so anyone with a PAL can own one. It fires the East Block 7.62x39mm round (same as the AK and the SKS). It is the semi-auto only civilian version of the standard Czech military rifle.

Check it out here: http://www.marstar.ca/gf-VZ-58L/index.shtm

I fired one on the range down at Silverdale the other weekend and I just had to have one. Marstar has been sold out for a while but Al Simmons in Hamilton has a few so I grabbed one.

Here's a photo of my new rifle. This is a hell of a good deal. For $675, you get the rifle, 4 30rd (pegged to 5 rd) mags, the mag pouch, cleaning kit, bayonet and scabbard.

I saw one of those last week on the rack at GMK Armoury. It looks like a fun rifle!

A friend of mine bought a VZ58 and installed a synthetic stock, muzzle brake and a short scope. This is his deer rifle for this season.

Cheers,
Todd

Looks sweet though

i thot the 58 was short barreled and restricted and the 858 was the longer barreled non-restricted version?

nice ither way, that beast is on my wish list, in non-res format of course!

The length of the barrel - it's above the threshold for semi-automatic centrefires to be considered restricted.

That's the weird thing. Marstar calls the non-restricted one a VZ58L whereas it's actually stamped VZ-858.

maybe its a mistake on there website? everything i've read on CGN says 58= restricted and 858= non-restricted, the only difference being barrel length.

It would be alot more fun if it wasn't Pegged for 5-Rounds. :x Silly, just to own one for that sake. I have a friend who had his Collectors Permit who had to get rid of all of his GUNS because of the New LAWZ of Canada. Maybe I should move to the USA, and live off of my Fathers Estate coin. O-Wait, they also have some non-sense concerning these types of Rifles also, don't they :?: Crap, he had an AK-47 mounted to his BedRoom Floor back in those Dayz

Nice Gun Though...

Krazy Mike...

Yeah, it's weird. For some reason, they refer to the VZ-858 as the VZ-58L. I've actually heard others calling it that too although it actually is, as you said, the VZ-858.

Thanks! The 5 round law is pretty stupid. They should have set a reasonable limit - at least 10.
