Good day all
I have purchased several different types of pellets, different manufactures as well as weights and shapes.

I have shot with my Umarex surge;
daisy wad cutter
stoeger xmatch
stoeger xhunt
crosman premier
jsb match diabolo dome 7.33gr and 8.44gr
Rws percision 7.0gr, pro line 8.2gr, field line 8.2gr
Gun shot best with Stoeger Xmatch second best Stoeger xhunt

With my Crosman Vantage;
the same rounds as above.
Best rounds are the 1st JSB diabolo dome head 8.44 at 99% grouping
second best JSB diabolo dome head 7.33gr at about 95%
Now the interesting part, the RWS rounds fit in the gun but will not shoot. Strange that the same
weight pellet will not shoot from a different gun. All the RWS rounds mentioned will not fire and the result is
a jammed round, i can feel the spring moving back and forth, not good for the gun I'm sure.

Does anyone else have this problem or could someone explain why this would happen as both guns are rated for
under 500fps. Scratching my head over this one guys. :rolleyes: some of the other stoeger rounds I tried from a sample
box did the same thing.

it's funny, but more than half my guns shoot 8.44 jsb's better than any other pellet! It's good quality stuff. Sometimes the heavier pellets get better spin on rifling and fly straighter. Also 8.44 jsb's have a wider skirt i've found :)

RWS pellets tend towards larger head sizes and harder lead compared to JSB and some other brands. The combination of a larger pellet and harder alloy will often get jammed in a lower powered airgun, especially if the bore is slightly under sized. There are no absolutes with bore sizing, you can get quite a wide range of bores even from the same manufacturer and the same calibre. I'd recommend staying away from pellets that get jammed, that's about all you can do. I actually choose RWS Hobby pellets in .22" specifically because of this, as they're one of the few pellets (and also one of the cheapest) which don't fall too far into my Webley pistol barrels. The slightly larger diameter means they'll stay flush with the back of the barrel, making for a slightly more powerful shot compared to having an extended air cushion between breech and pellet, and it also keeps them from falling back out when I latch the barrels on these over-cocking pistols. When I had a Baikal 46m I found the RWS Hobby a little too tight, had to force them flush, and their velocity was inconsistent. RWS Diabolo Basic fit just right, as did most other brands of .177" wadcutter.

Which is why Sharps made tapered, soft lead paper patched bullets for their buffalo rifles back in the 1870'as on wards. Due to the sharp blow of the black powder, the bullets would obturate and fill the grooves even of the largest bore and groove diameter rifles. One would think today, QC might be a bit better than 135 years ago?

Yeah, well, my most recently manufactured Webley pistol is a mid-1990's Tempest. The rest are all mid-1950's. I gather from some other Webley pistol owners that the slightly larger than spec bores are pretty common, if not universal with these things. My Baikal pistol's bore was likely slightly on the tight side. My Pardini K10 (now Rick's) and K12 seem to exactly on, which one would expect in a $2,000 pistol. Oddly, my various Chinese-made airguns (Crosman, Industry brand QB57 and QB78D) seem to be right on, just like my LW-barrelled Brocock Atomic. No problems with pellet jamming in any of those no matter how low powered.

I'm getting some jammng and pellets that don't leave the magazine. I'm new to the game. I wonder - Should we be pushing the pellets well into the magazines or does that cause jamming? I found putting them in loosely can cause the same problem.
Also I learned that different pellets have different skirt widths and of course all gun brands have magazines that differ in the size of their openings. So I guess one just has to try different pellets that work for that model. I have a Gamo PT-85 pistol that takes most pellets I feed it, but my Ruger 10/22 rifle is more fussy. I have yet to find the right pellet for it. But then I'll be experimenting with pushing in the pellet or not.
All part of the fun and challenge of our hobby.
