INITIAL IMPRESSIONS

Discovery 3 - 9 x 40 AO; 2nd FP

1. comes in a nice box with foam ends
2. 1 piece bikini-type rubber covers included
3. med height dovetail mounts included
4. 3" sunshade also included---this one came as a surprise since there was no mention of this extra
5. even and nice anodizing; no scratches nor dings
6. length is about 13.2" and not the advertised 12.2"
7. the AO bell is pretty stiff but better stiff than loose
8. min. parallax is 5 yards to infinity
9. mildots and half mildots closely positioned and may bother some; reticle is semi-fine and about the same as my Hawke 2-7x32 AO's (glass-etched reticle)
10. clear glass for its price and about the same as my more expensive Hawke 4-12x50 AO's (glass-etched reticle)

Discovery 4.5 - 18 x 44 SF; 2nd FP

same as numbers 1, 2, 3 and 5

1. length is 12.5" and not the advertised 13.5"--it is a smallish scope, the 3 - 9 x 40 looks like its big brother---I like the size on this one
2. 2" sidewheel included; looks cute and not cumbersome;
3. side parallax adjustment is smooth
4. min. parallax is 15 yards to infinity
5. mildots and half mildots not closely positioned as the 3 - 9 x 40's and are not cluttered; reticle is thicker than that of the 3-9x40's
6. clear glass for its price and clarity is about the same as the Discovery 3 - 9 X 40's

7. no sunshade nor camera mount included--there was no mention of the former though but there was of the latter and I noticed it only now when I
browsed it again

Note: transport from Canada to my door (Gallup, NM) was exactly 8 days, Saturday and Sunday included :D

P.S. Both scopes came w/ the ever-present microfiber cleaning cloth

Another sidenote: communication with seller was excellent :D
