I bought a sub 500fps Diana Stormrider in .177 some while ago because it was a really good price. I wasn't in the market of a sub 500fps gun but the price was just too good to pass on (about $225 shipped on a holiday sale). I had intended to use it for parts for my other PR900W/Stormrider projects but today I dug it out and thought I might as well shoot it a bit first.

I'm glad I did, this little gun is a hoot for shooting in the basement. Unlike the full power versions this gun is very basement friendly, the sound of the pellet hitting the pellet trap is louder than the rifle itself. I also found that I could get about 150 shots per charge. Over the afternoon I put about 350rds through it at 10m. I shot the first 150 with iron sights and was getting a quarter sized groups shooting from the knelling position.

Then I put a cheap 3-9x scope on it that I had previously experimented on to shorten the parallax focus down to 10m. I wouldn't trust the scope for hunting due to the way I've adjusted it, I might have lost the nitrogen gas charge. Shooting from 10m in a rested sitting position I sighted in the scope and proceeded to have fun making nice little nickel and dime sized groups for another 150+ rounds. I did notice that I seemed to get a flyer on the first shot from the magazine, maybe 50% of the time but the rest from the mag usually fell into one ragged hole. This was all in the basement and no one up stairs complained of noise and even the cats were not fused much by it. Now I intend to keep this fun little rifle as my go to fun basement shooter.

I was curious as to how the power was dialed back on the rifle so I did a bit of a strip down on it and the transfer port is very small. The full power guns are 3 or 3.5mm, this port looks to be in the 1 to 2mm range. All other parts appear to be normal PR900W/Stormrider.

Forgot to mention that it only takes about 80 pumps to fill it from the bottom of the green zone to the top so I don't feel the need for a compressor to go with it. The pellets I was using are some cheap bargain bin 8.2gr semi domed/round nosed Chinese made ones sold under the Grizzly brand name.

I already knew I really liked the PR900W/Stormrider rifles but up to now I'd only messed around with the full power guns. My full power .177 Stormrider pushes the same 8.2gr pellets to about 1000fps and sounds more like a 22lr being shot. It is loud enough that I need to wear hearing protection to shoot it indoors and anyone in the house will complain if they are home.

No other changes besides the TP? Hammer spring etc?

Hammer spring might be lighter but not much if it is. It would not properly open the valve at full charge if it was. All else seems normal for a full power gun.

Tried out a compact Ohhunt 3-9x32AO/IR scope on the Stormrider today. Perfect size scope for this down sized rifle, so far I'm impressed with the quality of this sub $100 scope. Don't think I want to risk in on a magnum springer but for PCP guns it seems perfect.

I'm not really into illuminated reticles but this one does light up bright enough to use outside if one wants to use it that way.

My only complaint so far is that the eye relief could be a bit longer for this application due to the limited space for mounting a scope on the Stormrider.

I find this issue as well with the compact scopes. I got good results moving the scope closer to me using an offset scope mount. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/361921884499

The scope fits the pistol breech perfectly for eye relief fitted to the rifle. The sloped back side of the breech is where the back ring wants to sit.

Added some photos.

10m distance with 9 shot mags, first shot is the aiming point used for the following 8. Best groups seem to be at around 130 bar. I have since installed an Altaros regulator and after screwing around a bit seem to have it set at 125 bar, I have not had time to shoot for groups with it.

Thanks for the review. Been looking at this exact rifle for a while now. A reasonably cheap way to expand my swiftly growing pcp arsenal
