It is under CBSA inspection. Incurring $120 dollars storage charges per day. This is the 4th day already and with long weekend, the storage cost will reach $800 by Tuesday.

You see how importing can be a real pain in the backside

That is a disgusting policy and a crime against Canadian small businesses.

That calls for a letter to my MP.

Good thing I've got a fresh one; the old one was getting very tired of me.

CBSA and RCMP need to be replaced.

 That made be smile.

On a serious note, It is definitely challenging to run business like this. CBSA's inspection team is running "2 days behind" as per them and we as a business pay for their delay.

There is something definitely wrong with this system. How is it even possible they can charge a business for their delay? Can you imagine airline having passengers paying while they wait to board plane? seriously f*ed up.

Storage charges in a bonded warehouse I would expect.

Yes, storage charges in the warehouse because cbsa didn't have man power to do the inspection on time within 24 hrs of arrival of goods at port. Meter is running while I wait.

This is really concerning. Sorry to hear of the delay Raman. Best wishes to you.
Small business in Canada would grow by leaps in Canada if the government would take responsibility for their own lack of manpower and pay the storage fees for all shipments that were legally shipped and imported.

Wes

I would not be surprised if it has to do with the current federal governments policy on gun control. If it becomes too costly or time consuming etc dealers will just stop selling.preventing Canadians from obtaining guns

Pretty much what happened with most of the blank guns. It's legal to import them, but the CBSA will hold them up for months and months.

This is plain outrageous to impose a storage fee because of inefficient bureaucracy.
Can't these imposed fees /charges be contested legally ? Could an MP be informed as suggested by Edmonton 500 of the situation and appeal to the House of Commons to request the policy be amended to accomodate businesses and not penalize canadian economy ?
Imagine this going on with medical supplies or other time sensitive materials. Crazy!

The goods are held in a private warehouse, not something that belongs to the CBSA.
