I usually shoot off the bench using JSB pellets and always have satisfactory to great groups. I barely touch the gun, only enough to steady it. However I recently ran out of JSB pellets and had to resort to Crosman HP,s. They were all over the place at 50 yd,s in my Pneuma .177. The same with my 2240 .177. So I started experimenting with hold,s. I discovered that a powderburner hold "tight to the shoulder and a firm grip" tightened the groups down to almost what I get with JSB,s. I switched back and forth from normal rested to tight, for 2 full tubes of air and the result,s were consistent in both gun,s. I would love to hear if anyone else found this hold better with PCP gun,s. Or even if anyone has tried it with poor result,s. Cheers

That is interesting, I wonder what's going on. Is that the full power version? If so, it must be shooting right around the trans-sonic region. I can imagine some weird stuff happens up there. I don't suppose different grips make small differences to muzzle velocity?

Joe - try the Crossman 10.5 RN's. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the accuracy. The Crossman HP's weighing 9.93gr. were not as accurate for me, not even close, actually, from either rifle, however the heavy RN's are wonderful in each.
Experimenting with hold will certainly do no harm.

Interesting Joe, on the same rifle but different ammo you had to change hold? Powderburners don't do that! I should state that my benchrest guns never did that! A finger tip on the trigger and the thumb on top of the stock and the shoulder barely touching the buttplate.

Does everyone know you should use just the fingertip to pull the trigger? lots of people learn the bad habit of using the bend of the finger.

What,s interesting is it only applies to crosman HP,s. in both gun,s. I have some RWS pellet,s that don't matter how I hold the gun,s.They all shoot bad. Well NOT BAD, but not up there with JSB,s. I have my pneuma shooting at 880 fps avg. I have some allouette pellet,s that are fine, even better than RWS pellets. Also hold doesn't matter to them either. Only thing I can figure it the skirt on the Crosman pellet, is thicker than the other pellets. This extra grab on the riffling might cause a little more barrel flex than the other,s ? I dunno, As long as I know what work,s to hit the target.

Interesting. I was reading on another forum, and someone was testing out a custom pcp and tried Predators. They did not group well untill he set up the gun to shoot them over 900 fps.

They shoot well out of most of my guns. We tend to think that guns are pellet fussy, to some degree I agree. On the other hand, maybe they are speed fussy more so.

Any one have any concrete evidence to prove one way or the other?

My understanding is that the Pad of the finger is the only part that should touch the trigger, Rick not the tip nor the joint.
