Yes, I know it's only 10m with the rifle rested (front end only) and you'd think I could get a perfect score, but I can't. I usually struggle to break the 100, so I'm happy. (It's an odd scoring system where you get an extra 1/2 point if the bull is completely covered by the hole, so the maximum score is 105)

James you are your own worst critic. This is an awesome card even if you rested the fore stock. If 10m wasn't hard enough it would be the ISSF and Olympic competitive range...... I could by your targets cheap and use then since I only hit everywhere you don't!
Well shot

Great, great shooting Jim!
You beat me again this month, I got only 100.5 with one nasty "8"
may be I can add another 0.5 for shot #2 but not sure/
I see you also got one "9" which definitely should't be there...

And I shoot springer with open sights  just saying

I'd be quite happy with that myself ... don't be so hard on yourself!

Thanks guys. I always feel a bit embarrassed showing my rifle shooting at 10m when I know there are people on this forum that can turn in amazing groups out at 50 yards or more. But we all have to start somewhere eh?

Vitaly, that is just incredible shooting with open sights. And with a springer? ! Very well done indeed. I did my pistol entries this week as well. I was really pleased with my IZH 53 entry - the new grip and the heavy muzzle weight work really well, but I blew out with the 2240. Just wasn't feeling the love for some reason!

Merry Christmas - hope everyone is having an enjoyable day!

Jim

WOW Jim, that is super!!!
What's the max score? Looks like you shot a perfect, but I have had a few alcohol beverages this evening!
Anyways wonderful job with an inexpensive rifle! I honestly wonder if you had a $2000 rifle how much your scores would improve?

Thanks Rick. Perfect on this target is 105 as they score an extra 1/2 point if the bull is completely obliterated (I'm thinking a .50 cal is the way to go here!).

I think the barrel and power plant on this 953 are now working as well as a more expensive rifle. It's a LW barrel and after tuning the pump & valve the last tests on the chrony gave 499 with an ES of 7 fps.
The weaknesses for accuracy are the trigger, loading mechanism and movement in the pump lever. And the more general weakness is build quality/reliability. The tolerances in the indexing/loading mechanism probably cost me a deformed pellet at the 1 or 2 shots per 100 level, not really a big deal most of the time. The movement in the pump lever during the shot is a PITA as it means for shooting rested you only have about 3/4" of the forearm that's usable. And there's not really much to say about the trigger, it's just plain nasty compared to a match trigger. I've put a sear adjustment screw in to make it better, but you can only take that so far without making the gun unsafe. So I reckon a high end gun would get me a bit of improvement in 10m rested, but not a whole lot. It would be a much bigger difference in terms of longevity and shooting pleasure though. Beyond 10m the differences would probably start to widen, especially if going to pal rated as well. For offhand shooting I also suspect the difference would be bigger, not so much because of the ultimate accuracy of the gun, but more because of ergonomics and the impact of the trigger.

Jim

Nice shooting both of you.

Still trying to find time to get mine done.

I did some more shooting on this challenge today; I was upset and disturbed by the fact that each 10 shots run has "8" or "9" in it, and basically I wanted to get one run without any "9".
And beat Jim's "102" result of course :axe:
Also I post my 4 trays to show how good and accurate HW-30s can be.
Many good words and reviews about it on this forum; one more from me
I like it so much, because I got 101, 100, 104 and 104 again!

What I think now - may be more heat-up shots required to achieve the top accuracy from springer rifle?

Wow! That's just amazing consistency. Yes, warmup time is likely to be quite an influence on a springer. Fantastic shooting!
