At our gun club we have a pistol range. What's a good air pistol that I could take out and not look silly being with other restricted powder burners. I do have a Crosman 357 presently and a 1008 Repeatair. Do I save my money and get a match pistol for 2 or 3 hundred bucks? Something above 500 FPS? I do have a PAL but never any interest in getting a restricted because of registry. I just got off registry because of Ex Prime Minister Harper. Kinda new to airguns. Have not shot mine in over 40 years. Thanks for any advice.

$200-300 is not going to get you much of a air pistol in terms of match quality. There are not going to be many +500fps air pistols available out of the box here in Canada if any. What would be the point? Technically you wouldn't be able to shoot it at home and all the other regulations of a restricted firearm.

IMO shoot whatever you have and get over whatever anyone else thinks. I paid my gun club membership fees. If I want to shoot my slingshot at the range so be it.

Words well spoken. Do not want to go over 500fps and have to get restricted licence. Ordered a good pump pistol that my gunsmith recommended for paper this morning. Got two different kinds of matched pellets. Should have it Wednesday. Had to get locks. Same storage rules as guns. CRAZY! I have 11 Excalibur Crossbows, Compounds and spears hanging on my wall and arrows in a milk crate with broadheads on the shelf between and they are worried about my little pellet guns. LOL

I assume you're referring to your range's rules because the locks aren't required by federal regulation.

Don't need my "black badge" to holster a pellet gun on Club Range. They say they do not care if I shoot myself in the foot with a pellet gun. Got my pack of 100 National Rifle Association 10m pellet paper targets today and a new Crossman American Classic 1377 for in house range. Club Range I have a long nose and a stubby Crossman 357 with a nice leather holster. See if I can gather enough support and have air gun shoots. I have been in charge of archery the past five years. Maybe time to past the torch,. 8)

Just curious... Have you ever actually shot a "match" 10m air pistol? Let me tell you, it's a real eye-opening experience!

I got a Crosman 1377 (and then a 1322) for a bit of plinking around the house but without a lot of work and surprising expense, the trigger is really really bad. It's an unusual gun in that there are SO MANY after market mods available for it that you can (if you're willing) make it a lot better. But then you'd be spending almost what some single-stroke pneumatic match guns could be gotten for used.

All I'm saying is that if you're interested in 10-meter pistol shooting, don't get discouraged with the 1377. And if you haven't yet, please try to find someone with a better match gun you could try to at least see the shocking differences.

Have fun!!

Thank you Mtl_Biker. I know I will get my clock cleaned and handed to me and I am full prepared for that. Good competition, pro shooters help and advice, all make one want to get better. No different than archery tournaments I have been involved in the past 15 years. Did look at some cheaper airgun match pistols at Airgun Source with adjustable triggers and such. First thing is go to a couple match's and meet the people. If it is not fun people, well then, no sense buying an expensive pistol for competition and stay in my own house range. I am a people person and don't mind heading off by my self and meet new people when I get there. The people I meet on my journey will dictate the route I take. CHEERS!

I was thinking of a USED match pistol. Maybe something like the IZH 46m. With a bit of patience and searching you probably could find one for just a very few hundred dollars. No need, especially at the beginning to spend a thousand or more dollars. And there are others as well.

Do any of the guys at your range have 10m match pistols? Owners are only too glad to show off their guns and let you try them. At least that's so at my club. That's what happened to me, unfortunately. I was all set to buy a particular match pistol used for only about $300 but then the guys let me try their much better guns. And I was very hooked, and it cost me a lot of money. :)

Now that the pain of the credit card bill has worn off, I'm thrilled with what I ended up buying and my results, while not great, are improving all the time and more importantly, I'm really enjoying the shooting and the challenge.

Cheers!

Yeah this. I don't mind getting beat. The fact it exposes my total lack is skill is what I'm not so good with.

Don't really know anyone into pellet guns but now that I am I am sure I will find lots of people that are. Never seen anyone at our gun club with an airgun. Just powder burning rifles. I have not shot a powder burner in six or seven years. Switched solely to archery. Have not shot a bow in 14 months as I tore my rotator cuff a year ago last February. Trying to let it heal without surgery. Last July 3 of us went to Ocean City, Maryland to shoot stingray on the Atlantic Ocean and I never took a shot with a bow as I did not want the risk of hurting it. $1200 to watch my buddies shoot stingray. LOL Now back into airguns I will remain with the sport no matter what. Went 2 years not shooting a bow a few years back and switched to crossbow for that elbow injury. Sucks getting old.

Don't feel you have to spend lots of $$$ on a gun to start out with. I went to a pistol match with a $60 gun and tied for 3rd place, against guys with high end guns. The Beeman P17 is a good beginner gun, mine at the time was Marksman 2004, same thing.
A good beginer gun will get you comfortable with shooting, and working on your gun. The 1377 can be improved with a slightly weaker trigger/sear spring and a bit of polishing the contact points. No shortage of info and parts for that platform.

You may get looks and sneers at first, but once guys sedan you're shooting all day for $10 it might catch on.
