Post subject:  DIY Reactive Splatter Targets

Hi, I'm new here, just joined today but I'm a long-time avid air-gunner.
For some months now I've been making my own reactive splatter targets super-cheaply and I just wanted to make sure others know about this method. From 10 meters or even out to 20m or 30m on a bright day, the impact point of your shots will be easily visible on these paper targets, for WAY less money than buying manufactured versions. I can make 50 or more of these things for less than $10.

Step 1 - acquire brightly flourescent colored paper or light card sheets (like pink, green or orange), poster-sized (24x36 are less than $2 each) are good to cut up into smaller pieces
Step 2 - cover the smaller target-sized sheets with bands of packing tape, the transparent 2-3 inch wide tape that's used to seal cardboard boxes. Make sure the tape bands overlap a little or at least don't leave any paper un-taped. Apply the tape beyond the paper edges and fold it over the back of the paper when all bands are done.
Step 3 - spray paint with flat (non-glossy) white or black paint (the tape might buckle and warp a little as the paint dries, depending on tape and paint type, but so what)
Step 4 - paint or draw centerpoints or circles or whatever you want, with whatever markers that work (paint, pencil crayon, wax crayons, pastels, etc...) I like black paint with white dots to aim at
Step 5 - tape the target to your cardboard box or whatever you use as a backstop, and enjoy the bright glowing spots that appear when you shoot 'em!!!

MUCH more satisfying than simple white paper targets, as the paint will spall off the glossy tape upon pellet or BB impact and reveal a little outline of easily seen color. For way WAY WAY less money than buying manufactured reactive splatter targets. Yeah, they won't have perfect white concentric circles like real targets (unless you're really good with a protractor) but you'll love shooting something you made yourself for almost no money.

Oops, double pics, don't know how to undo that!
This pic is of a heavily used green card target (10x14 inches or so) that I used for sighting in a couple new guns I got recently. Ignore the crappy white diamonds, you can do whatever you like.

Excellent results, but is it really worth it?
No sarcasm intended -- I'd really like to know:
Were you using reactive targets regularly, would you make your own versus buying "value packs" retail?

I use reactive targets regularly.
For 10-metre off-hand pistol shooting at the range (.177 pellet, .22 PB or 9mm PB, depending on my mood), I use 2" reactive target circles stuck to the middle of light, 8.5 x 11 card stock (vertically, two per sheet).
I'm pretty sure the card stock costs me more than the two reactive stickers.
I buy a $20 pack on amazon (10 sheets of 16, 2-inch targets + lots of 1-inch black dots stuck in-between the targets), and that lasts me for weeks when I'm shooting regularly (five shots per target, ten shots per sheet).

I'll shoot 5-10 sheets per visit.

When I'm really feeling cocky, I use the 1-inch black dots -- again, two per card, five shots per target.

(I'd get a lot more use out of those if I could peel and re-stick on a new card)

Have I missed the attraction here?

I don,t wan,t to steal your thread intergalactic. just giving you some ideas of what you can do with these.these do work good. I did a post on making these last year and I figured they were about .07 cents each to make with colored cover stock paper. (it,s thicker than ordinary printer paper and a bit more expensive.) you can even use white printer paper which is even cheaper. I used dollar store paint with a brush for mine and did them right at my computer desk. instead of having to go outside to use spray paint. so if you have time on your hands and a little imagination. I,d say they are a bit cheaper than store bought. here are just a few I made.

This is actually a great hack! And DIY thing!

Another way to do it without paint might use double-sided tape and put black construction paper on the other side then clear tape over the black paper top layer.

Interesting!
