Tried it first time today~ not that hard as I thought and interesting ~

However looks if you want to split the whole card, you will need some good setup and a little bit challenge as read somewhere, when the pellet touchs the card, the card will start shaking and wobbling...

Splitting cards is fun with a cap lock, a flint lock rifle or smoothbore muzzleloader.
I've used all of them for these, but mostly flint lock rifles, .32flint, .40flint, .45flint, .58cap, .69cap and 20 bore flint smoothbore with single ball.
We do this at about 15 yards distance.
It would be quite tricky with an air rifle, however if you don't hit the card with the middle of the ball, no matter the diameter,
the card will move out of the way and you will get a partial cut only.
Most of them are marked with date and calibre.

That's the result, not the reason ~ [emoji38]

I fixed the card with 3M invisible tape and put it back into my daughter's deck afterwards..... :drinkers: so she still have the full deck currently....

I haven't attempted to split a playing card, since well, Dad still lived in NS. Dad's rifle sure made it easy at 100m.

That's amazing ~ actually the longest I shot was about 40 meters at a bottle cap... And lately all in my 9 yards basement range...

I haven't tried this yet but it sure looks like really satisfying. I might try doing this some other time and see how well I can enjoy it. Amazed by how I never thought about this before. This is a crazy idea, thanks for the suggestion.

Yeah- there are only 36 on that wall. I stopped posting them up there 10 years ago (or more)
You shoot one, you shoot 30 no difference.
well,not quite - LOL
The Ace of Hearst, 4 rows up from the bottom, and the 8 hearts above that one, show what happens when you ALMOST hit the card with the middle of the
round ball.

BTW, what happened to the 10 on the second row from bottom?

You shot it with the one below?! [emoji38] Image

Nope - August 2009 with the .40 cal. flintlock, and couldn't find the other part of the card. It happens at times.
Shot with this .45 cal. rifle, but with the .40 cal barrel on it.

.45 cal.... I believe the 12.7mm is.50 cal, right? ( I know they are not the same like using 5.55mm pellet in your .22 rifle ~)

For someone doesn't know how. 25 looks like, it's hard to imagine the fun on shooting these big bore monsters~ Really want to see that with my own eyes and touch it with my own hands!! Image

Those .5's are quite large.
This rifle is my favourite shooting rifle, for hunting as well as for target shooting.
It's calibre is .69" - that's what the muzzle of a 12 bore full choked shotgun measures, except mine is a rifle.
It shoots a 482gr. round ball at 1,550fps.(hunting load)
Fun to shoot. The smaller calibres do not kick even remotely as much.
I only have a few now: .36flint, .45cap, .50flint, .69cap(which is 14 bore) & a 20 bore smoothbore flint.
cap means cap lock
flint means flintlock

.36 is 9.1 mm
.45 is 11.14mm
.50 is 12.7mm
.20 bore is .620 = 15.7mm
.69 is 17.5mm
last picture is my late hunting buddy Brad, holding my .69 rifle.

You're welcome. Here's the 20 bore English styled flinter with 31" bl.,
my little .36 Southern Mountain plane-jane rifle with 38" bl. and the .50
Beck County (Pennsylvania) rifle with 44" bl., a bit more elaborate.
