Hey All,
Brand new to indoor shooting. In the past I owned some property in the country and did all my plinking outdoors. Our new house has a huge basement and is finished. I was hoping to setup some good targets that won’t be too loud on impact. I obviously assume paper would be the best but what backstops are the best for noise as well as protection from ricochet. Hoping the noise from the co2 pistols (BB & Pellet) won’t be to extreme upstairs.

A wooden box backed with duct seal. No richochets and silent as it gets.

I have duct seal ready to go but right now am using a cardboard box with old denim etc inside and replace the face when it becomes a large hole.
We also have a recycled rubber plant nearby so I have rubber mats standing against the wall in case I screw up..no damage to drywall.

I always have a tonne of worn-out clothes and garage rags. So I stuff bags full of them. They suck up pellets very well. And they're completely quiet when hit with pellets.

To my understanding, what you need is actually a back stop, pellet trap, target box.... Whatever to sit behind the targets...

I use duct seal pellet traps too. Very quiet when being hit , impressive result in absorbing impacts... The same pellet trap stand well when I upgraded my collection to add a 26fpe .25 magnum springer...

A little bit expensive as I used about 10 bricks to just filled my cookie can pellet trap...

As you shoot both steel BBs and lead pellets, you may need two different target boxes?!

BBs guns usually much less power, what you are using (denim fillers) will be good and very easy to collet the wasted BBs (to re use or recycle)...

For lead pellets, dust seal is good as the reason above, but not very good for BBs as the weak muzzle power on a BB gun could not shoot BBs deep into the duct seal and shouldn't take long, when the BBs hits the others that just sticked on the surface of the duct seal it would easily bounce back to everywhere....

Talking about 'targets', that can be everything... I use paper targets too when I do zeroing or groups. Usually I shoot everything as I am a plinker ~ [emoji38]

Below pls take a look at mine... I happened found a same size cookie can before Christmas time and replaced the one I used for a few years... (use the same duct seal fillers but give it a new home~) in the period of time, maybe 3, 4 years something, I added two bricks to fill the holes when I digged out and removed the lead piles...

Also the 26fpe 25cal power vs pellet tin. My pellet trap have no problem at all for this kind of power. The heavy box with duct seals shakes and wobbles when being hit tho...

You are correct, sorry for the confusion. I'm looking for a back stop, pellet trap, target box. I have lots of wood to make a box with duct seal (had to google it) or I have a ton of boxes from parts shipping through work. I think I make both. Now that I have the basics I will head to YouTube.

How big are you guys going with he backstop ? Like I said is finished drywall, Can't have strays. I'm a decent shot but didn't know If I should account for a few wild shots ?

Thanks Guys...

Horse stall mat. Hand a old carpet a few inches in front to keep them from bouncing back.

How far do the BB's bounce forward off the horse mat ? You just hang the mat on the wall ?

I mainly shooting very accurate rifles, so my pellet trap just about 1foot x 1 foot size, and good to put a standard suze target onto it.

BB guns from 5 or 6 meters away should be well placed within that area....

Except fliers... so I have some holes on the dry walls (too)....

To eliminate having any chance of a hole on the wall... Looks much more need to be done... Hanging a thick carpet a few inches away from the wall is a good idea... Maybe you need a rail on the ceiling?!

Attached a picture of the duct seal I use... Remember I bought 'some' from Lows or Home Depot a few years back for 2 dollars or 3 dollars something a brick... Have no idea why I saw ads for 20, 30 dollars a brick (1lbs) now... Would ppl buy from them? That's crazy.... Image

This!!

Duct seal is the best product to remove noise from target noise.

I made a wooden box and filled it with rubber mulch. The box is about 8" deep and absorbed 30fpe@15ft with no issue. It's dead quiet.

I made mine with 9" wide 3/4" thick rough pine from homedepot. Cheap and easy to work with. Opening dimension are 13x16 and took about 10 bricks of duct seal. The front is foam cored poster board. Works perfect but does get heavy after a couple of thousands of shots.
