Post subject:  What Pellets to use ?
Hi all

I haven't shot in a field target comp for over 8 years and never since we have lived in Canada. When I shot competitively previously I used Air Arms Diablo pellets. I was wondering what brand and model (?) has been most consistent for you guys. My intention is to get as much info from you shooters and maybe narrow the selection down a little and then maybe order a tin of each different pellet and start the process of thinning out.

Oh, and if it's not too much trouble, could you let me know where to buy them.

Please feel free to post comments, but NO fighting. This is not the FORD, GM, DODGE argument.

A good resource to see what other FT shooters are using with a given gun is the CAFTA Website.. Look through match info, scroll to the bottom of the pages and click Results.. Here's a starting point.. http://cafta.ftcentral.ca/blog1.php/201 ... 11#more218

2) H&N - F&T Trophy, Barracuda, etc.
3) Crosman Premiers (boxed type).

Seems to me I read somewhere that the Air Arms Diablo pellets were relabelled JSB Exacts.

What power will you be shooting at. If sub 12 ft/lb, then the JSB Exact (8.4gr) and Express (7.9gr) work well. Some guns like the Express and most like the Exacts. As was mentioned, Sniper has them.

For the 20 ft/lb guns, the CP 10.5 boxed, the JSB Heavy and H&N Baracuda. In FT anyways, you seldom see the F&T Trophy used. I think Cibles carries the H&N. Premiers I have not bought in so long, I do not know who carries them in Canada.

I get mine from D&L in BC. John and Kelly are great to deal with.
I do have a rather large selection of pellets at home [ .177 and .22 ] and will bring them to the shoot in March.
I just ordered ,today, a bunch more .22 pellets to try out along with more targets.
Still trying to find the sweetest pellet for the AA.
H&N Barracuda's are the best so far , grouping 3/4" at 50 yards . I am sure alot of fault lies with me - lol

X2 with Supermatic as far as choice 1 & 2, I never tried the Crosman (boxed) who sells them, I would like to give them a try.

I used to use superdomes but for the last 20 years (ish), I've used H&N FTT

OK, so general consensus seems to have a go with the JSB Exacts, so I went ahead and ordered a "batch" (10 tins) From sniper.

Man, the service from that guy is impessive. Reasonably priced and speedy shipping complete with tracking # and some really great communication made Dan a pleasure to deal with.

Now, as soon as my replacement Trigger Sear arrives from the UK, I might actually get some of these pellets "down the pipe".

Question: Why would " boxed pellets " be any different from tin ?? there the same pellets. 8)

Boxed pellets are all from the same die lot. I think they are using letters now. So if it is marked die lot A, every pellet was made using the same die.

In the tins, you just get Crosman Premiers or whatever type you buy, but they could come from a variety of die lots. So the consistency of the tinned pellets is not the same.

For plinking this probably does not matter, but for competition, you need the consistency.

My understanding is that provided you buy the same Batch Lot #, then all of those pellets came from the same die regardless of whether they are sold in boxes or tins. Of course, I could be mistaken on this.

Not familiar enough with tins of Premiers to even know they had a batch lot #. I have always bought the boxes and have not bought any of them for about five years. If I find a lot, like the #7 die, I buy four boxes and generally they last me for quite a few years since I only shoot them in my USFT and ld/SS. Since I have been shooting mostly in the world class, those guns get very little use.

Air Arms Diabolo's are indeed (as Supr mentioned earlier) re-badged JSB 10.2gr pellets...
