We are looking to do something a little different for the August 13 match. It will be a silhouette swinger match.

This what we are looking at for how the match will be run:
- The targets will consist of a frame holding 4 x 1/20 scale silhouettes (ram, turkey, pig, chicken) + 1 x 3/16” wide blade.
- There will be 1 or more targets frames per lane.
- Lane quantity will depend on the venue.
- The frames will be positioned anywhere between 10 and 50 yards from the firing line.
- The targets will be shot in order from the largest to the smallest before moving on to the next frame in the lane.
- The nearest target frame will be shot first before moving to the next frame.
- Only 1 shot per target will be allowed.
- 1 point will be awarded per each target hit with a miss, or the wrong target hit, counting as a 0.
- The equipment and shooting positions will be per CAFTA “Hunter Division” rules.
- There will be a PCP and a piston category.

I have a couple questions.

1) What exactly constitutes a "hit"? Does the paddle have to clearly spin a full 360*, or does a glancing strike that only moves the paddle an inch or two qualify as a hit as well?

2) Is the scoring based on an honour system - ie. - the shooter tells the scorer whether it is a hit or a miss, - or is it up to the scorer to be able to see if it is a hit or a miss? (which may be a bit difficult for folks with less than perfect vision, especially at the longer ranges, and in the case of a paddle only moving very slightly).

We were out shooting at 4 frames today at distances from 15 to 50 yards. All targets are able to be hit as we did hit them today. Did we run the 4 frames clean? Hell no.

You will achieve full rotation, or more, with a solid, direct hit even at 50 yards (18fpe gun). You will also get a rocking motion with a "less direct" hit. A slight glancing hit will shake the target sideways a little. I'm thinking all of these will count as a "hit" for a point. I did notice the breeze to be giving the targets a bit of a right/left shake at times. You should be able to tell the difference thru the scope.

The scoring partner should be trying to see the hits as a confirmation but at the end of the day it's an honor system. It's no different than "did I hit the face plate" for hunter class. With the targets actually moving its probably easier to tell.

This is the first time out for this shooting match. We tried to keep things simple. Things may evolve as we go forward once people try it and give their feedback. It's certainly a challenge and a lot of fun.

I have pdf files with the 1/20 scale silhouette if anyone wants them for practise. Please email me at rob@gastle.ca. I'm unable to post them here

I'll be there!

I like the creativity and think it'll be a fun challenge. Thanks for coming up with something different.

I will be coming to send some pellets downrange with hope of occasionally hitting the target.
