Only happened to me ounce, less then 30 kph, black ice on a bridge, all 4 wheel's lock and pickup speed on the way to the car in front of me, who got lucky to stop ( not me). It was long time ago Mercury Lynx 1983ish.

Chock one up for being old and retired. Get to chose to only go out when the weather is decent.  Edit: That said I have never had a problem driving in snow. Used to go snowmobiling in the Haliburton area, and it never bothered me driving there and back. My one real fear is black ice. The sickening feeling when you realize you are moving at a slight angle to the road. And if you manage to get nearly stopped if there is a slight tilt to the road even if the wheels are locked you keep moving in the direction of the slope. |

It was nice! I had spent 4 hours in the surf and sun - got a bit burnt, so had to cover up. Here we WERE with the kids, for Christmas.

I would never pay a single dollar to fly, just to sit on a beach. Waste of money IMHO. Army paid for me to live in a Desert. Ya can keep the sand and sun burns.. But have no idea what that has to do with the topic? |

Had a great time - visiting with "2 sets" of kids. So 2018 saw 2 THINGS off the bucket list. Cross country, coast to coast & Hawaii with the kids. Time is getting short - body's too 'broken up' to do much else. So- not your thing - GREAT - still almost a free country. You do what YOU want, I'll do what I want - I won't tell you what you do is crap and likewise in the future. Try to be civil in this new year if possible. I will as well. |

I got mine last night when I left parking lot... The auto gate just lift too slow... actually the freezing rain is the reason that I couldn't stop as usual before the gate and thank God the gate was lifting up, slowly tho, I had my engine hood hit the end of the foot of the gate slightly and Thanks to freezing too that made an ice cover on my car so I didn't see any damage.... That's nasty, Yep. Does Ontario still legislate against studded tires? I know I had them back in the early 70's - 1 maybe 2 years? They sure help on the ice. |

Not sure... It should be... I got my winter tires, however not much helping on black ice especially at the last one meter something before totally stopping your car... ABS engaged too... But on the other hand, if without these features, I might really need to pay for the gate and maybe my front end of the car ~ I was leaving office from the shipping parking lot, after I passed through the gate, the second thing I thought was thank God, the shipping/ receiving was closed, otherwise, I don't think the trailer containers can stop before the gate.... Tire studs are legal in Northern Ont, but not in Southern Ont. I had studs back in the 80's because I immigrated to Ont from Castlegar BC and studs were normal back there, used them every winter till they wore out. |

They have the mountain with snowflake symbol and are recognized by Transport Canada. They are still not as good as snow tires but are considerably better than all seasons. I put a set of the Nokian ones on my wife's car three years ago and can attest that they do the job in Toronto conditions. Consumer Reports recently tested some and the Michelin Cross Climate was rated the best. |
