So I've been looking for a cheaper sub500fps rifle for a while now. A member here, Dukemeister, recommended the break barrel they sell at Princess Auto. Apparently it is the Crosman CO5M77X Optimus rifle.

Stopped by my local PA store a while ago but they didn't have any in stock. It was on sale then for $110 if I remember correctly, regular $129.99. Fella there brought it up on the computer and said that it's being discontinued at their stores but there's a few in stock in Ontario and a few at locations in western Canada. I contemplated ordering one online but figured the shipping cost would offset any savings.

I see that it's on sale again for $91.03. So now I'm waiting for mine to arrive:) All said and done with taxes and delivery total cost was $122.22

Not a bad deal if it is indeed a new Crosman Optimus and not a refurbished model. But for 90 bucks I figured it was worth the chance considering the Optimus at Cabelas retails for $199.99.

First time I've ordered something online from Princess Auto so I'm not sure how long it will take or what kinda shape it will be in when it gets here. Anyone have experience with online orders from Princess? Hoping for the best;)

I've ordered numerous things and they all arrive within a couple of days. No worries there. Let me know about the gun. I've been looking at "pulling the trigger" on one at that price but still haven't.

I have bought a few things from them online - from tile saws to capacitors - and they have always been packed well and shipped quickly, by courier.
The rifle will be a good one whether refurbished or not, in fact, if refurbished it will be better than new in box because someone will have cleaned it! LOL.

PA also has very liberal return policy, so low risk to buy online.

They will give you your money back. Less shipping.

I bought one at 110 bucks, so far so good. It is shooting not as accurately as my old one purchased for 159 bucks from Canadian Tire last year, but I believe it will improve over time. The deal is too good to miss.

Well T_Dogg, I wish I could tell ya about the gun but I'm still waiting for it to arrive. Order was placed on march 7, last info from purolator tracking # was 3 days ago on march 12 when it "arrived at sorting facility" in Calgary. It also says "delayed in transit" so I'm not sure if it's sitting in a warehouse, on the road, or laying in a ditch somewhere;) "Estimated time of delivery" is stated as "by tuesday march 19th". Thinking I should have spent a few more bucks on express shipping.

Basement range is stocked with pellets, fresh targets, and my trigger finger is getting itchy. Hopefully soon.

Speaking of pellets, for those of you that have this platform of gun in 495 fps, what do you like to shoot with it?

Aw that sucks. I'd blame Purolator as it sounds like Princess Auto shipped it right away. I'm excited for you and wanna know how it is. Lol

Sounds like the kind of message you'd get after a nation-wide snow dump. The 19th seems to me to be a very acceptable delivery date. Let us know if it happens. :)

For 10m basement shooting, my .177 Optimus likes Gamo Flatnose. They are also very reasonably priced.

I like and have been using the RWS R10 for a long time which is the lightest lead pellet that weight @ only 7g and competition grade accuracy

Usually you can get the best deal in Canada with AGS buying the RWS pellets that buy 5 get 1 free and extra discount when you buy this quantity and once or twice a year you can combine with free shipping....

So the gun did arrive on the 19th as stated, bundled up tightly in black plastic wrap. A few small dings in the box but nothing you would’t expect from something that travelled across the country on a truck. No damage to the rifle itself and first impressions are good.

Nice fit and finish and everything is tight and clean. Ran a few bore cleaning patches through the barrel and they were only slightly discoloured. I’m surprised by the size and weight of this gun:)

On to the targets! Set up at 10 meters on the basement range from a budget rest (ie, the wife’s magic bag on a couch). Put a couple dozen shots into some beer cans and watched em dance. Grizzly 8.6 gram domed pellets in .177 from Princess Auto.

Happy with that, I attempted some grouping on some oddball paper targets. Pretty impressed with the results for a gun straight of the box without adjusting the sights.

I think once I find a pellet this gun likes and put a few hundred down range I should be able to shrink those groups. Trigger pull out of the box is loooong on this gun. Not something I’m used to. But it is a 2 stage adjustable so I will play around with it or try to adjust myself to it.

The scope does seem pretty basic and I don’t intend on mounting it until I’ve got the open sites dialed in with the proper pellet. The fibre optics do offer better visibility on my range than the traditional black blade sight of other guns, which is a nice touch.

All in all, I’m pretty impressed with this thing at 90 bucks on sale. Big thanks to the members here who pointed me in the right direction.
