Hi Folks!

Just found this website - yay! I've been looking everywhere for this air rifle, and can't find anyone local who carries it.

My daughter made the Sea Cadet Range team and they use this rifle for practice and competition. She's good but could use extra practice, so I'd like to get this rifle for her. However... the very few places I've seen it online are asking ~$330 and that is pretty steep. Too steep for us just now anyway.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for purchasing this rifle in Southern Ontario? (area code 905/519/416 or close by)

I've been advised not to purchase a used model (seems like sage advice to me) so unless someone has a mostly unused model to sell for cheap... I'm hoping one of you will be able to tell me where to find one.

Thanks in advance!

What about a 953? Until you can get the 853. And at $100 its a good gun.

If you need a gun for practice....you should buy the exact model needed. Would it be possible to find another cadet and split the cost 50/50 and share it?

Agreed re: the same model - I think it would throw her off to have a rifle with different heft to it. Thanks though. Any other ideas? :)

Good morning!

Yeah there would be no point at all in ordering from D&L:

Quote:
Jenn,
Thank you for the inquiry. The total for a 853C shipped to a cadet in Milton, ON is $354.04.
Please see the attachment for details. I am sorry I cannot give you better news.

No savings there - too bad.

Also had a reply from MrMarvin (thanks for suggesting him) and he has a friend who might have one - will call later today to talk to him.

Still looking, but getting great info too - thanks so much guys.

It seems to me that this would be the perfect opportunity for us (the forum members) to actually give something to the community.

Two ideas come to mind...

One would be a short auction, with the money going to D&L (or other supplier) to offset the cost of the Avanti for Jenn and her Daughter. Of course this would require larger donations (the items) from only a few people, but it has been done before!

The other idea is to just announce that all donations to the forum for the next couple of days (up to the cost of the gun) will be used to offset the cost. This would allow more members to donate in smaller amounts, hopefully with the same result. Or if you think it's more appropriate, limit it to half the cost of the gun (may be better?)

I for one would be more than happy to make a small contribution if I know it's going to help someone get into the sport. It seems that she is someone who will appreciate it too. It won't take much just to offset the cost by half! Not only can we actually do something to help someone, it may even help to promote our sport to some degree, and likely our forum as well.

...Not meaning to insult anyone here, and I really hope I'm not out of line in suggesting this. It's just a thought...
