How thick is the metal? I was going to make a gong last year since I got a ton of 1/4 - 1/2" plate steel.. I want it for powderburners though.. How big did you make the plate? For the effective range of your average airgun a large gong wouldn't be much of a challenge to hit.. Unless you set it out at 25 -35 yards and use it for pistols...

We'll have to find out! I've got some tins of heavy pellets that I've been dying to try at 70yards

If your airrifle is shooting in the 25-30ft/lb range you should be able to do 100 yards on that gong.. What we do is hang up old frying pans and shallow oven pans at 100yards and drill em.. 8) makes a nice ding sound when you hit them..

I'll make sure the next time we meet on the field it'll be there....

3.5" radius? So it's 7" in Diameter then? wow it's alot smaller than it seems in the pic... Hard to tell it's size.. At first it looked like over a foot in diameter..

Here are a couple of fun/practice airgun targets....
the smaller gong doesn't have quite the same ring as the larger target...
Small target is 3-3/4" dia and the larger gong has a 7"dia disc....

It was the most fun thing to hit at Port Colborne practice shots ......
It was quite a challenge to hit The Air Gun Gong there with the wind blowing so hard
but it was really fun ....
