We certainly had a great day for the match with very comfortable temperatures and enough wind to make some shots surprisingly interesting. The turnout was good, with 21 shooters, including one new shooter and three juniors. The course had a lot of variety and an overall difficulty of 36T. With the pond drained for the offseason, we were able to set up a down angle shot on the bottom of the pond and two long ones across the pond. The wind tends to swirl a bit in the empty basin which is 20 feet below the shooting pad. The largest KZ on lane one was a half inch, so we found out who had coffee before the match.

The Hunter Division was well attended with seven adults and three juniors. There was a very close race for first between Braden and Haley, but Braden held on for the win by the slim margin of two points. Haley had a great day and was very pleased with her score. Gillian did not have her best day, but I am sure she will bounce right back next match.

For the adult hunters, in spite of some gun trouble, Marshall was able to post the High score. Dan and Rob claimed second and third, but for fourth there was a tie between Luke and Brent, forcing a shoot off for the fourth and final medal in the division. This was Brent's first match and he shot it entirely off hand. I he starts shooting from the seated FT position, look out. Chris T. And Kel rounded out the scoring.

The WFTF PCP had a total of six shooters, the highest number in a match so far. Chris N. was in the zone again this week and dropped only two shots while winning the top spot. Second place was not decided easily as Jeremy and Tom P. tied for second to force another shoot off. Don was able to post a fourth place finish, followed by Tom J. and Ted.

Five shooters participated in the only other division for the day, Open PCP. There top spot was not decided until the very end when tallying scores. Dennis L. had a great day, posting a victory in only his second match in a FT division after terrorizing the hunter division for a season and a half. It couldn't happen to a nicer guy. One shot behind was the spring man, Len, participating in Open PCP for the first time. Just a couple shots back was Magdy who claimed the third place medal. I was able to pull in at fourth followed by Dennis E.

The shootout between Tom P. and Jeremy, in WFTF PCP, took place first. We set up the shoot off targets and paced out the distance. After the time started, Tom got busy quickly to try to get his shot off first. He did and knocked it down. Jeremy took his time, but just clipped the edge of the KZ enough to chip a little paint and leave the target standing. So Tom P. claimed second and Jeremy third. Congratulations to both of them.

The shoot off for Hunter was next, between Brent and Luke. Staying with his offhand style, Brent took the first shot and hit the rim. Luke steadied in and took it down clean to win the shoot off and claim the fourth place medal, putting Brent in fifth spot. Great shooting!

After the awards, lots of lead went down range on the sight in area. Most had to pack up and head out to get to other events, so after we finished shooting around 5:00PM and pulled the final targets, just Jeremy and I headed out for supper at a restaurant just up the road. Maybe in October we will have the big crew heading out for grub again.

Many thanks go out to all who attended and to those who set up lanes for the match. Congratulations to all the award winners and to all shooters for a great day. We will be back at Port on October 3rd for the last regular FT match of Port 2009 season. Our November match is the second Elmer Fudd Annual Hunter Match. Mark those days on your calendar if you have not done so already and finish off the Port FT seasons with a couple of great matches.
