Specifically, I need a metre of 1" OD x 0.065" wall.... I put in a huge order with Metal Supermarkets (who list it on their website) and they have everything I need except the Chrome-Moly tubing.... I told them to hold the order if they can't find the 4130 tubing because the rest of the material won't be necessary if I can get the tubing....

I also put in a big order for fasteners at McMaster Carr and the website took the order (to Canada) no problem.... I got a confirmation email (so I figured it was in the bag) and then the next day another email telling me that because of "US Export Restrictions" they won't ship to Canada any more.... What a crock of sh!t.... export restriction on BOLTS....

With the luck I'm having getting the materials, I may just have to shelve my winter project....

bit of fact:
dont laugh but there is a restriction on nuts bolts screws and such(i know this because i used to work for a custom broker and there are restrictions to them and there is a HEAVY duty on them if they MUST come from other than canada)

McMaster Carr claim it is US Export Regulations that prevent them shipping anything to Canada.... This has nothing to do with Canadian duty, taxes, or tarriffs.... I'm guessing that in a fit of 9-11 paranoia it was easier for McMaster Carr to just stop shipping outside the US than deal with all the new laws.... Optics I can maybe understand.... but bolts?.... give me a break....

Ridiculous....

I pick up tubing in Edmonton at http://www.teamtube.com/

They've got tons of different sizes and styles. I notice they have a coquitlam location as well. While you're on the horn to them, you might want to see if they have any appropriately sized offcuts of SAF2507 (UNS S32750). It's once of those fancy duplex steels and under 400F it should make some exceedingly strong maintubes. I just don't want to pay full price on it. ;-)

Here is the email I received today:

Quote:
Thank you for your order. Unfortunately, due to the ever increasing complexity of United States export regulations, McMaster-Carr will only process orders from a few long-established customers in Canada. We sincerely regret any inconvenience this causes you.

Thank you,

It has NOTHING to do with small orders as they have NO minimum order.... I know Americans that have purchased one pack of disc springs worth $7.00 and they shipped it no problem.... It is unlikely that they will process small order to the USA and not to Canada.... makes no sense.... My guess is that it is just as they say in the email.... too many Export Laws in the USA.... so they can't be bothered....
