im looking for a reasonably cheap -500$ gun in .22 cal pal rated or a .ss that can be easily modded to pal rating for -300$ in canada. any leads?

QB-78 from Sniper, $160 now I believe. It can be tuned up to over 700fps, and very accurate. Only downside is that it's CO2 powered and doesn't work in the cold, but it can be converted to PCP and you're still under your budget.

If you're looking for a springer I hear the HW30s is very good, though I've yet to shoot one myself.

after readig this post, and about 200 reviews i think i am in love :) now just one question on the subject of C02 is it bad for the gun during the winter or is it just that u go thru it FAST

The cold won't hurt the gun its just that the colder it gets the less Co2 pressure you have hence the less speed and power the pellet will have.
