I just tried putting my new Hammerli AR20FT in a gun case and discovered I don't have one wide enough for the scope. Do people usually remove the focus wheel or just get custom cases?

They need to be wide enough to fit the gun and scope. You do not remove the scope to fit into the case.

As lower end, you can get any double hard gun case, like this one:

The Plano Pro Max may be another option, but not sure if the pillars will get in the way:

The better cases are expensive, but super quality.

Like the Pelican Protector Case: http://www.officerstore.com/store/produ ... odel_1720/

Or the Hardigg Storm Case: http://www.officerstore.com/store/produ ... long_guns/

I have both, and like the Storm better.

That said, while at a match, many people either carry there guns in a open cradle designed for their gun, or like myself, in a padded soft archery style bag (for carrying compound bows).

I just noticed this soft case...interesting...I know nothing about it.

Looks like I may be shopping for the Storm. I have a wide variety of gun cases and none of them can close on the width of the Walther FT scope. Or I could just drill a hole in the side of a case...
