So I got my 953 targetpro yesterday, I'm happy with it for $59. The scope is not the clearest but usable. I wanted to ask if these guns are detuned at all for Canada? It shoots nice but a bit more power would really make a difference. Are there any reasonable power mods or anything I can do to get a few more fps out of this gun? I have my PAL so no worries about that.

Thanks,

Matt

They are only "detuned" by changing the advertised fps to below 500fps.

An easy mod to add 25fps is to fill in the pump piston cup with epoxy

filling in the pump piston cup is the only mod to gain fps. double pumping will gain another 15 or so fps. lighter pellets will add a few more to put it over 500 fps but not by much.

Thanks all, that's what I suspected. Either way it's a nice shooter, likely not worth the effort.

Please do not double pump. It will damage the seals and the valve body.

I've done it before. Felt a bit too light and unstable. It's well balanced with it on.

i added weight to my muzzle brake and filled the low compression piston with JB weld, moved the scope as far back as possible and turned the end (the part facing the eye with the writing on it) two turns and locked it in place with the ring.

end result, the MPI moved up a bit but the total distance on zero moved from 35meters to 50+ meters (my max shooting straight without getting trees in the way is 52 meters) a bit more 'uhmph' on the pellet shots, when using RWS super point 8.2gr

also called D&L and got another 10 clips so i can keep shooting without stopping to fill the clip. now with 11 clips i can shoot 55 pellets without needing to stop and reload.

so far very happy with it.

my next mod is to find a heavier muzzle brake with hopefully a 1inch OD so i can attach a flashlight to it. going after them coons in the dark is a pain and i don't like to take random shots, its either a head shot or nothing.

but as it is, its very effective on rabbits, starlings and pigeons, the furthest ive shot at a field game has been 10 meters and its a clean head shot with min suffering.

The 953 isn't powerful enough to be used on coons.

really? how do you figure?
its not the 'blowing the brains out' that will kill them, its the bouncing the brain around the skull that does the job.

kind of how they use a nail gun on cows.
you wouldn't think a .22 pneumatic airgun could take down a full cow till you see it in person. the thing goes down like a bag of hammers.

You sound about as smart as a bag of hammers.

You obviously do not have a hunting license or training.

I really hope you are kidding.

uhmm ok.
i do have a gun and hunting license and yes i know the 953 is a .177 not a 22, i said the 22 nail gun is used to take down a cow not a coon.

what does any of this have to do with a 953 not being able to take down a raccoon?
shot placement is 90% of the game.

if you are going for center of mass or 'vital organs' as they teach you during the hunting course than yes, you will need good penetration to go through the heart and lungs and you wont get that from a 400+ FPS 0.177cal 8+ gr at less than 10lbs, pellet.
HOWEVER
if you place the same pellet between the eyeball and the ear OR the base of the neck, it will be an instant kill

I re-read your post and realized you weren't talking about your 953 and removed that comment as you replied.

So you weren't kidding.......

Stupidity indeed.... 8 gr. @ 400 fps is less than 3 FPE.... I think it very likely it wouldn't even penetrate a 'coons skull, just pi$$ it off.... We can only hope that the guy trying it is the 'coons target du jour for revenge....
