I took my AT44 regulator out today as there was a leak from the bleed hole. What a mess. The O ring on the pressure side was covered in some sort of crystal substance. and rust, even though it,s aluminum. The inside of the tube was also a little rusty. After a cleaning with a silicone spray and cloth, it came back to a nice shine. I also cleaned up the regulator exterior, and replaced the O ring,s. So my question is what else should I do as maintenance on the reg ? And how often ? I bought this gun used, so I don,t know how long the reg was in the gun or when it was serviced last.

Lube the valve thoroughly on the exterior with silicone grease- sounds like bi-metal corrosion on both the tube and the valve (the "crystals" were oxidized aluminum most likely).

Thanks Eric, I did silicone the entire exterior even under the o ring,s. I also squeezed a little in the plunger hole. I hope that was OK to do. I figured since the spring is steel and the body aluminum, there might be corosion inside as well. I did tap it on the bench and nothing came out, not even oil. What about taking it apart ? Is that required ? I know I would have to gear up a spring compressor to get the snap ring out, but is it necessary ?

OK so I cleaned and lubed the regulator and replaced the O rings. It no longer leaks from the bleed hole. HOWEVER !!! Before I was getting 910 to 930 fps and now I'm getting 750 avg. The extreme spread from 10 shots though was only 3 fps.
What do I have to do to get 900 ? I did not change the hammer spring setting from before the maintenance. It was at 3 turns out. I'm guessing the hammer spring might be my only option for increased power ?

I'm not terribly familiar with the AT44 and any regulator it does/doesn't have (I own one, but have only shot with it a few times, no interest in taking it apart)- but if you got any crap in the regulator shims or took it apart and put the shims back in a different layout, it will affect it's pressure output.

Should be the problem then.
No cleaning lube inside reg?
Kinda like washing the car instead of doing a service Joe :-) :-)

Extreme spread
Tells how well the reg is doing compared to before adjusting.

Careful not to turn clockwise too much or you'll force the brass needle into the white plastic material and may "damage" the reg.

My Audrius regulator failed on my S410... inspection shows some of the o-rings need replacing and the white plastic material has been indented by the brass needle from me turning the knob clockwise too much.

I e-mailed Audrius and he sent me a newer version and I just paid for shipping... $12.00 :drinkers:
