You're not going to find much interesting from local stores, and certainly not at any attractive prices. You can probably get a gun cheaper with shipping from replicaairguns than you can locally from camouflage or Gorilla Surplus or some place.

Amazon.ca has free shipping. Since you're in Vancouver, ordering from Amazon USA and shipping to a receiver in Point Roberts or Blaine is an option that I have done myself and can recommend. The selection is quite good and the prices are lower than what you can find here. Usually the savings from the lower prices at Amazon USA are already enough to cover the costs of your fuel and any parcel receiving fees, but add to that any savings you get from filling up your fuel tank on your car and buying other things like dairy products or booze and the trip will have you coming way out on top.

What's the 24 hour declared limit? I used to know it when we traveled more frequently to the US.

It looks like for <24 hours, the limit is $200 on goods not including alcohol and tobacco. I've been slightly over a few times (like $30 over, not grossly over), and with one 750mL bottle of wine each time and haven't had to pay any duties yet, though technically I should be paying duties on the alcohol, but I think the CBSA officers don't want to bother with all the paperwork and clogging the lines just for $2 or $3.

I bring purchase invoices ready to show for all goods, otherwise the CBSA grumble at you while they go online to look up the values. If you declare pellet guns, expect to have your vehicle searched but if you're clean and do what you can to make their lives easier then you should be on your way shortly.

edit: I should add that I say the selection at Amazon USA is good, but this is just for the more "normal" guns, like the Crosman, Beeman, Umarex, Gamo lineups. You're not going to find exotic stuff like Sumatra or whatever on Amazon with free shipping.
