decided to shoot at longer distances then my usual 30 yards, so today i cleared shrubs and setup a 40 yard target so i can stretch the legs of my 34, it was zeroed at 30 yards yielding dime groups consistently, 40 yards is something else for a springer :o

at first i did not adjust scope except for the objective, i determined that i had to holdover 1/2 mil-dot, then the groups started to come together, but found it hard not to use the crosshair, so after a few groups, i decided to adjust the scope, i gave it 6 clicks up and two clicks to the right which put it near center, so now i need practice as the slightest inconsistency in technique will throw the pellet off at that distance  the groups fits within a quarter so i'm somewhat satisfied

PIC; the two cards above have been shot using a 1/2 mil-dot holdover, the last card is with the scope adjusted

i marked the distances using a pre-measured string, i left a 50 yard marker, so tomorrow i'll setup a target there as well, will be interesting to see 8)

cheers

Sweet Paul!
Pretty soon you'll have to buy one of those springer scope mounts that adjust for elevation!!!

i think i will still be ok at 50 yards, i'm using a droop compensator so i can play with that a little bit, i punched the numbers in the chair program, and with my zero at 40 yards it calculates a 1.5 inch drop at 50, so if i do decide to adjust the scope instead of using the mil-dots, i think i'll still be fine as the elevation turret is still at the mid-point, after all i only had to add 6 clicks to zero from 30 to 40 yards

50 yards will probably be the max i'll push the 34 with the current scope, its a Leapers 3-9x40

Love my two bug buster 3x9's too!

I was teasing about the droop compensator! But a sub-pal gun you'd need it!

thanks guys

it did bring back that precious smile on my face, the kind you get when you first get into airgunning and make your first ragged hole at 20 yards

and my first shots at 50 yards..........i need practice cause i know i can do better....no blame on the gun  , some cards shows only 4 shots as i pulled a few, the slightest pull of the rifle will be amplified down range and throw the pellet off target

on another note, i took a few practice shots on the 40 yard range, i hadn't notice that i lined up the 50 yard target just behind, so one pellet continued and hit the hard wood pole of the 50 yard stick, imagine my surprise when i looked at the penetration at that distance, the pellet in completely embedded
