Wild guess that the rifle which had the striker on the left was purchased used?

Someone (previous owner) butchered it with a grinder.

I've never seen a QB hammer without the tail.... but then I've seen, what, three or four?.... *LOL*.... I've machined off a couple, though....

When milling what is best for that type of steel.
Grinding or tungsten bits.
My mill only gets 1/8 shank
I was scared to brake My cutting bit in tungsten

I've never milled a hammer, when I machined the end off I used a carbide bit in a lathe....
