After honing the compression chamber ( Nitro Venom .177) to clean it up somewhat...... I retested over the chrony with 11.57 gr. and discovered a tiny increase of 15 fps over my" pre honing" numbers.I understand averages and extreme spreads but I don't know what to make of the standard deviation.Which numbers do I read ?Is it the population standard or sample standard numbers?

I'm no expert but from what I see on you tube air rifle reviews, your gun is sittin' pretty. Those are good numbers, in fact I'd say if those pellets are accurate, stick with those kind.Honing compression tubes is an art.Darn easy to screw it up so you did alright. If you had messed it up, your fps numbers would be lower than before or they would be all over the place.Or both.Congrats!

Okay...its sample standard deviation.….and thanks...it was my first shot at honing but I think the results were mostly from luck.I wouldn't have attempted it on a $500.springer though and if I made a mistake THIS time and destroyed my gun I would have just went for a PCP.However...the way its shooting now...and the convenience of just cranking the barrel and getting consistent fps and accuracy.....I think I'll just stay with springer/gas rams.
