Greetings everyone. I am using the account name for another forum I belong to. Age is encouraging me to be more frugal with things I have to remember, so I'm duplicating to save a few brain cells. Please call me Yukon. I found this site quite by accident while looking for information on ammo options for better performance. I'll explain my situation...
I bought a Benjamin Classic 22 a couple years back and didn't really do much with it. I sighted it in and put a couple hundred rounds through it. I bought it with the intention of using it for grouse hunting in my backyard. We have lots of them and rabbits that I and my two now-grown sons traditionally took with a Rimfire 22s.
I live on the outskirts of Whitehorse, Yukon and the wilderness is my backyard. Noise was not a problem for neighbours, but it did alert all the other woodland creatures on the trail that I was nearby. So I thought a skookum air rifle would be an option to explore. Also I wage war on red squirrels each spring before the migratory songbirds nest up. Squirrels predate these birds as eggs or hatchlings. Birds control insect populations- squirrels do not. Birds are threatened by habitat loss in both their southern and northern ranges, squirrels are overpopulated here. Squirrels are destructive, birds are not. So I cull the little buggers a couple times a year to keep their numbers in check. That's my desired use for an air rifle. Most shots are under 20 yards. Some of the dumber grouse you can kick like a soccer ball. I don't like using scopes as a rule. The OEM scope is nice and tighter than Hell, but I have a difficult time focusing through a scope as I froze my right eye (dominant) about 30 years back, but I find red dot sights to be quite acceptable. So that's what's on my Classic 22.
As I said above, I'm here to learn how to get the most out or my weapon and become proficient in its use.

So here I am. Teach me

Excellent intro, Yukon. (shouldn't we call you THE yukon? - - JK). Is your Classic a Canadian version, or a full power version? I'm interested in how it performs for you in its original, unmodded, form (whether Canadian or full power, but would like to know which). I acquired one (Canadian version) in a "lot" deal and am debating whether to sell it or upgrade it.

Ya see? :) we all have info and experience we can share to someone's benefit on occasion.

Welcome aboard!
