Hi,

I've got an HW98 with scope, so it's not exactly a lightweight gun. I've been playing around a bit with the seated position where the gun rests on a pad on the knee, something like this:

However, I can't seem to hold it as steady as I'd like. It seems that in this position my legs wobble a bit laterally since there is no triangulation holding them in place.

I have more luck with my arms wrapped around my knees, like this:

The problem with that position is that the rifle gets uncomfortable on my arm after a while, and also the gun is not resting on the best point for accuracy.

So...anyone have any tips for improving the stability of the gun-on-the-knee pose? In particular, how do I brace it sideways?

That's the way I shoot when sitting. Lots of long hunting shots and military shots made that way.

Yes....still kicking.

WOOHOO! Way to go Rick!

As for that position, yeah, it looks solid with the arms wrapped around. If it's getting uncomfortable I'd look at some sort of thin sandbag or maybe a foam pad.

WOOHOO! on both counts. Give us an update, Rick; many want to know.

WOOHOO 2 on the second demonstrated position. If I could bend my hips and knees that much, that's my preferred position. (At least, it was until "real steel" entered my body in three of the four key joints). :P

I sit like the guy in the second picture but with some differences. I sit on a bum bag that allows me to have my feet flat on the ground and I also have my feet farther apart..

I like this video, maybe you have seen it....hope it helps....
