Well, I did this build about a year ago, but didn't spend much time playing with it. A couple of weeks ago, I took it out for some shooting on a whim. I had always wondered what the 2240 10.1" .177 LW barrel was capable of, but I put on sights that I didn't like so much to start with.

It has the nice barrel on it, steel breech, put it through the usual tune and internal polish, and some nice walnut grips. There is a rear peep sight on it, which I didn't initially like.

We were plinking away, and I was using my Hammerli Pneuma. I rarely stray from the Pneuma, but figured I would pull out the 1740. At 50 yards, I was shooting at an old computer box. I could hit it even standing with boring consistency. Then we went for a 6" metal gong. Again, boring consistency.

We set up some more targets, and I shot an old CD that we had hanging. I hit it the once, so eventually decided to do a full 5 shot group sitting on bags. Imagine my surprise when I found this:

So this choked LW 10.1" barrel is truly something. This was shot with open sights at 50 yards!! I could hardly believe it. To further push this pistol, I have already installed a Vortex Strikefire with a doubler on it, but I will also be throwing a higher mag scope on it to push its limits in a test.

I never expected it, but I'm back in love with a CO2 gun!

Got one of those with the same LW barrel, with a scope from S&A and it shoots "Great".
Had to file the barrel to get a lead in.
Now it shots every pellet at 11 meters, same hole. CO2.

Just zeroed in the red dot today, and with the doubler attached, had no problem with a ragged hole at close range, too. I've just been shooting H&N FTTs so far, but I have a lot of JSBs to try out as well.

Can't wait to see if I can tighten up groups even more for those 30+ yards shots! I foresee a lot of dead starlings in its future.

What pellet does yours prefer?

Works with JSB Match Diabolo, JSB Match Diabolo Rifle, RWS Meisterkugeln and also good with Crosman.
Have just used "Wadcutters" for 5 years.

I found the best pellets in .177 for my 1377 pumper is believe it or not crosman pointed pellets.... the ones that cost7.99 for 500 or the one that comes in a milk carton...I get a ragged hole from 25 yrds...
