Yes, you'll need a non-restricted PAL to buy/use a crossbow. A regular bow doesn't require any licencing...unless you want to hunt with it of course. HTH,

alberta doesn't require an FAC to buy or use a crossbow - but if you are hunting you need to use broadhead tips, have a pull of over 100 lbs, and have a license for the animal you are going for. The only illegal crossbows across all of canada is the pistol style.

You don't need any licence here in Mississauga to buy crossbow.
I was at LeBaron and almost bought one, and ask the guy there and he
said there is no licencing required for it, just buy it and take it with you.

In the eyes of Ontario law (you don't say where you are) crossbow = firearm. So its considered a firearm in terms of any hunting activities. (e.g. can't discharge on a roadway etc.) Same goes for bows.

But Federal law excludes it as a firearm because of the 150m/s rule. You don't need a PAL to purchase one. Some provinces have banned crossbows, or so I understand.

On the back of my PAL;

POSSESSION
Non-restricted

AQUISITION
Crossbows
Non-restricted

So I assume in Saskatchewan a Crossbow is classed as a non-restricted firearm. You can buy a regular/compound bow here with no licence.

Doesn't say that on my PAL.
On mine....

POSSESSION

AQUISITION
Non-restricted

Depends where you live in Canada. Each province is allowed to put different fine print on the PAL/POL that their people receive.

you do not need a PAL to buy a crossbow in ontario. i remeber when i was talking to someone at the bow section of lebaron a few years ago, he said that they might require a liscence in the near future, but that never happened. i chose a compound bow instead, they just seem more attractive to me for some reason.
