Still works but front sight now rests at about the 1 o'clock rather than 12 o'clock.
Question: did the barrel and front sight twist together in the plastic breech, or did the front sight twist on the barrel? (I suspect the former...)
Another question: just how is the front sight attached to the barrel? Glue? Friction fit...?
Thanks!

Just press fit, block of wood and hammer it off, and put it straight.

^ x2. Friction fit.
As long as the barrel seems to be parallel to the pump tube, and centered when viewed from the top, it's likely all you've done is tweak the sight.
If there's any visible misalignment of the barrel to the tube, you may have cracked the plastic breech. It would be exceedingly easy to get a replacement, as I'd gladly send you a couple for the cost of postage. . .
Good Luck!

If it is still working fine, then it is most likely just the sight.....it is only pressure fitted...it comes off quite easily if done right...just youtube search, "remove front sight Crosman 2289" if that comes up empty search 2240 instead of 2289....there are a few vids on there...same barrel and sight

Thanks guys!
I finally just grabbed the front sight & gave it a twist. Back it went!
It seems to have a 12 o'clock-ish spot where it's comfortable but feels a touch loose.
I'll have a closer look tomorrow...
Cheers.
