I've read a lot of info and still don't seem to have a definitive answer. I've got a Hw50s which is currently in sub 500fps form. I'm considering putting my trs-25 red dot on it. I've read mixed info on whether or not the sight will hold up to the springer recoil. Some folks seem to do ok, others seem to indicate their dot sight didn't hold up after a couple of tins of pellets. Anyone have any experience they can offer to help out? I suppose I'm looking at info specific to the Bushnell sight. Thank you.

The HW50S isn't a scope killer, but for a clear answer instead of an opinion, I would suggest contacting Bushnell. It may be a question they're familiar with. Good luck, RC

I have thought of that, but I'm pretty sure they won't have any clue what the Hw50s is, and will most likely provide a generic answer. I really don't care about warranty etc.. in the end if the sight craps out because of the springer then I'll take the responsibility. Was hoping someone may have actual real experience doing this and can provide their input. If I'm to be the guinea pig then so be it.

I killed a Bushnell Banner 4-12 X 40 A/O by putting it on a Hammerli 490, and then a B-1. I'm fairly certain at least one of those had a hole in the piston de-tune. Both were sub 500 guns. It's not so much recoil force, but the forward/ rearward vibration cycle that does it to optics. I doubt the trophy red dot would stand up long to a springer- there's a lot of moving parts in there for switching reticles...

That was kinda my concern too Doc. Both the springer motion and likely number of parts to be shaken around.
Are we basically limited to iron sights or springer rated scopes on spring guns?

Gonna hafta put a disclaimer in here- simply because I ain't really a springer guy....

I did briefly have a William's 5-D GR peep rear on the 490, and it was very accurate. (it took all the elevation the 5-d had) It seemed to hold up well.
If you do go the peep route, I'd suggest at least a William's FP-GR. Zeroing the 5-D was a major p.i.t.a....

Doc I think you're a closet springer guy at heart! You just don't like to admit it! Lol. I appreciate the peep recommendation. I'm still using the iron sights and having good success at shorter ranges but looking to go a bit further out will make me want something different.

Now that's funny

Actually had the optimus out today. Got a pretty decent migraine going by shot #4. Shot 20 more, and couldn't take it any longer~ had to pack it away. I'm still hitting 12 gauge hulls with it at 15 paces....
