Hi everyone !

I'm looking for some fancy hard-hitting penetrating ammunition for my A1 COLT1911 Government CO2 pellet pistol (.177)

It uses those umarex 8 shot rotary mags you toss into the slide.

I got these RWS orange hyper velocity pellets and some predators but they stick out from the rotary a bit and so the slide doesn't close. I don't think those are compatible (is there a way around that btw ? I'm assuming no)

However I DID find this youtube vid of someone using these so I ordered some:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDZnMzpKCLk (PLEASE tell me I got the right pellets lol right below)

Skenco Blue Arrow .177 Cal, 6.4 Grains, Pointed, Lead-Free, 250ct
http://www.pyramydair.com/s/p/Skenco_Bl ... _250ct/802

Does anyone else know of pointed or stuff like those gamo lethals that would work properly in the umarex rotary?

Also would these work ? What's your opinion on these ?

Domed or wadcutter pellets are recommended for those magazines. Not sure what it is you want to "penetrate," but fancy, expensive "hunter" pellets are not made for your low-velocity Colt 1911. I'd use domed and as heavy as you use and still maintain a speed close to 400 fps. Start with some samples from the JSB line.

Regrettably, you are doomed before you start, if you are looking for "hard hitting" pellets. It just aint gonna happen at 350fps or so with that pistol. Even if it does 400fps on a hot day with a tailwind.

The velocity is nowhere NEAR enough to expand the pellet as intended by the manufacturer.

To answer your question though, the Gamo's with the BB stuck in the nose may be your best bet, although not alloy.

Regarding the alloy junk (sorry) I have tried MANY of them, from pistols to 1000fps rifles. Yes, they are faster...the trade off is accuracy. They suck.

If you doubt what I'm telling you, here is about half of my current pellet stash. I have no room to keep the rest open and available like this.

This page has a lot of alloy high performance pellets you could try:

I missed the edit window, damn.

I only posted that pic to show you I have tried, and continue to try many, many different brands \ types of pellets for the guns in my collection. I am VERY sure there are many folks here that have a much more extensive assortment to choose from, but all my experience has shown that the alloys, the plastic skirt type, and most other lightweights are less than accurate.

RWS super h-points at 6.9 gr seem to be accurate out of my 2 rotary mag umarex's.
If your 1911 colt was made in Germany, odds are high that the gun will shoot at near the velocity on the case sticker.
My 92 is one of these. With the 7.9 gr crosman hunting field point (milk carton) they are almost on the money at 419 fps avg. Box sticker says 425. Close enough. Predators are too long for these mags. I'm getting repeatable accuracy with the milk carton points, as well as the JSB 8.44 gr dome.

I have yet to get a pba pellet to group in any gun. They shed their velocity very rapidly.
I haven't tried the gamo rockets in my pistols yet. They are reasonably accurate in my .177 rifles.

Hey there !

First off nice collection I'm kinda jealous :P

Second, what about stuff like those blue skenkos I ordered ? Oh and I made a mistake, not predator, I got the HORNET rounds.

Hey !

Yah it's made in Germany, I've got hollow points they shoot alright was just looking for something 'fancier'. Do you have any issues where sometimes the pellet gets stuck in the mag ? Seems like the gun only fires reliably say like 5 out of 8 shots. Is there a way to correct that or are my pellets slightly too wide or something ?

Is the mag indexing properly? It may not be rotating properly to the next loaded "chamber" of the mag, so the the gun fires but has no pellet to push out the barrel.

As for my collection...just planning for my retirement LoL :)

That could be it I think it's the indexing. Kind of reminds me of toy capguns when I was a kid, sometimes you had to pull the trigger multiple times to get a shot out.

Hey I just realized something. What would happen if I took say a Hornet and put it directly in the barrel, leave an empty rotary magazine so the air is channeled properly and fired would that work ? It's shyt that you're converting it to a 1 shot reload but then you can have technically 1 hornet in the barrel with an empty slot in the magazine and then 7 shots of whatever.

Hello,

Type 2 Blue skenkos arrived, the ones I ordered from a couple posts up. They work very nice with the umarex rotary and they hit pretty hard. Also it seems they're the most accurate out of the bunch, not by much though I'd say .2" better grouping.

I didn't wash these since they're lead free, but I gave them a quick wd40 spray and rolled them around, tested after an hour in them being in a lightly ventilated area (little portable fan next to them)

So anybody looking for 'fancier' ammo (to me this is fancy) for their Umarex Colt 1911 A1 Government, these fit the bill pretty nicely. They're the only 'pointed' pellets I've found so far that are compatible.

Must have been on vacation when this thread appeared. Didn't see it.

I had problems last year with the similar 8-shot rotary magazine in the Umarex Beretta Px4 Storm. Until I read the owner's manual (of course, I never read manuals first!). It states clearly (page 6, section 4A):

Quote:
Pointed pellets should NOT be used with any airgun that uses a rotary style magazine.

Hello there et all~

Just new here and I was just finished a small research on this topic by myself as I found the same problem while using my CP99 and M92FS pellet airgun.

"Using the pointed pellet will damage your gun" is a lie. "Using the pellets in the wrong size will damage your gun", this is true.

Go straight to the result, the expensive RWS Hyper Max will be the best “armor-piercer”. It's light weight, it's alloy, it's hard! While using this pellet, I can penetrate the spray paint cans and other thicker cans easily, not only the pop cans.

And for "daily" (^_^) usage, the Crosman pointed pellets will be the best fit. Good price, good quality, good power. Only one thing not that good is its weight, 7.4gr (about 5% heaver than the normal RWS pellets, and about 40% heavier than the Hyper Max) looks a bit too heavy for the 12g CO2 powered pellet guns. Anyway, I am buying the 1250 pieces pack for my guns now... The Crosman pellet is the best fit for the UX rotary mag. No bigger, No smaller, just perfectly fit into the mag without any problem, both the pointed pellets and the wad pellets.

And be careful, do NOT use other RWS pellets except the Hyper Max, because those pellets will give you continually hard time when shooting the gun with them. I don't know why the same company who made the mag will make the pellets not fit for it...

The Diabolo Basic line just slightly smaller, and will fall back from the rotary mag especially while you shoot something over head.

And the RWS Hobby Sport line which as said by the OP, slightly too big, so you are not able to push it fully into the mag and flush the end to the mag. So both these 2 pellets will block the rotary mag from rotating smoothly.

I have a chart marked down the size data of several pellets I tried and the UX rotary mag. But it's in my other computer in the office. I can share it with you guys later. You can find out why these pellets can fit and why those pellets can't.

And, BTW, I didn't tried other "fancy" pellets on my guns, i.e. the hollow points, destroyer etc... Because I found many review regarding those pellets worked not as it described. And usually those pellets are heavier, which I think it's no good for our weak powered air guns, hand guns not rifles, which only use a 12g CO2 as power plant. And in order to be sold in Canada, the FPS is lower than other higher powered guns to be sold in US (i.e. the SIG P320 etc...)

You can see the second hole that the pellet made while it went through the can on below picture...

And other pellets can only make a dent on the can.
