You can get a scoped NP .22 Phantom for $200Cdn. Shipping is free. Cabelas often has sales so you might get a better price if you wait & watch.

I assume this is PAL version. Since the NP's seem hard or impossible to up gun it is more important to get the velocity you want from the start.

That said I have seen the PAL version Crosman Shockwave on sale shipped from Cabelas for 150 a few months back. Shipping was free. Sorry I didn't move at the time. It is on sale again though at 180.

Other than wanting one I have never owned or shot a NP rifle.

This is not the case at all. You can buy everything from the gas ram alone, to a full kit that includes the more powerful ram, full power piston, and a new piston seal as a bonus for under a hundred bucks.
Both on the original NP guns and the NP2 guns.

To me, it doesn't make much sense though, unless you find an old one in your closet you didn't even know you had and want to upgrade it to >500fps.

Remember the moment you upgrade it, the rifle becomes a "firearm" and you must do the proper storage dance. No more sticking it in a corner, or on a shelf in the closet.

I STRONGLY advocate purchasing what you want initially though (PAL rated) as it is cheaper and less hassle in the long run.

I'll second that the nitro spring is not very reliable on those guns, and replacement springs are ~$50CA. As IT mentioned you can buy any part for them, and since those two guns are the same base model all the parts are interchangeable, as are lots of other parts from other guns. For example I prefer the Regal stock so I'd buy that to upgrade a Phantom or whatever. Same with the barrel since I prefer the shrouded one.
You might also consider a Weihrauch gun since apparently they aren't all that much more than the Crosman b/c the Weihrauch are normally priced and the Crosman are way overpriced. No way in hell I'd ever pay $300 for one of those guns, $100 tops, but I'm in the US so I have that choice but even $100 is overpriced for what you get compared to a Weihrauch. The Weihrauch HW95 is usually the cheapest, but you do sacrifice some power. My HW95 was $300, and I think CA $ is similar, maybe even better?
The Crosman barrel is a biggie as to why quality guns like the Weihrauch are so much better, b/c the crosman barrel is very poorly made so a great many guns just suck and the only realistic fixes are to try and fix it yourself or buy another and see if your luck improves, but it'll never be like the Weihrauch. Or you could get lucky and get one that's accurate enough and the spring lasts, it's all part of the game....
