Went to tighten the stock screw on our Maximus and it just turned and wouldn't tighten up. Turns out the stud that holds the front of the trigger and the stock fastens to striped in the air tube. When I took it apart to repair it I was surprised at the corrosion I found inside. This is a 9 month old gun that has mostly been pumped with a hand pump and has been used weekly. It has somewhere around 10,000 rounds through it give or take a thousand or so.
Guess we are going to take this gun apart more often or change air supply. This same gun was leaking air and we had changed out the fill check valve looking for the leak but now I'm convinced it was leaking out the valve.

That kind of corrosion is what happens when high pressure air has water in it. Are you using a moisture trap and desiccant on your pump? The O2 in air when under pressure greatly accelerates oxidation of metals, including the inside of your air reservoir. That's why scuba tanks must have an annual visual inspection of the inside of the tank whether they are steel or aluminium. I primarily use Nitrogen in my pcps so if any water vapour ever gets in, there is less chance of oxidation. The stripped stock stud is a common problem on Benjis. I had to order a new one for my discovery from Crosman.

That sux... Your air is no doubt much moister than mine, but I was thinking if it were me I'd clean it all up and coat with polyurethane so hopefully that would never happen again regardless of how wet it got. As for the stripped hole I'd install an insert for just such events, which would no doubt last for life. Heli-coil, keensert etc. Whatever you do keep us updated, I'm sure lots of peep have the same or similar gun and this is their tomorrow.
Optionally I suppose maybe some desiccant for the pump, or after the pump, or maybe even inside the gun?

Im retiring the pump all together and going to a bottle. This is from a pump with no filter and pumped up in the basement. Problem is we shoot all winter and we are in and out of a warm house with them. Probably not a good idea bringing them in and out. I kind of expected I'd find something when I took it apart but didn't expect that much. Ordered a new tube and rebuild kit and have cleaned and polished the valve and air block. Just waiting on the parts to put it back together.
