The Beeman P17 Magnum is something that might interest a few members. It has a little more length than the original P17 and shoots right at 495fps. Cocking effort isn't much more, due to the added frame length. The metal frame inserts are a bit thicker to take the extra stress. The price is only about 25% more than the original. The improved adjustable 2-stage trigger is also very sweet (similar to P3). The Beeman P17 Magnum Elite is the exact same pistol with a Lothar Walther barrel at a little more cost. Apparently a .22cal Magnum version is coming out in early 2018.

It's called wishful thinking or dreaming

Dear Santa... please bring me a Longslide P17 Magnum that shoots 495fps (non-PAL).

After some great suggestions from Todd (greatly appreciated), found very little lubrication on the P3 piston o-ring and inside piston tube. Changed the #117 o-ring, cleaned the tube and lubed all. That gave me about +10fps! Then, lubed the breech o-ring and discovered after just 10 rounds a white lithium lube blowout ring growing inside the over lever (in-line with the breech opening). Added 3-wraps of dental floss to the o-ring recess, updated the breech o-ring seal and after 200+ rounds, No More tattle-tale air leaks...This increased my shots another 10+fps!! Cleaned the barrel rifling, however wasn't dirty and didn't add any additional velocity. Appears I'm now getting real close to the P3 stated velocities with my RWS Hobby 7.0g WC's...just like Todd's P3!!! :D

I then tried some RWS Meisterkugeln 7.0g WC's. I knew these were 20 or so FPS faster in my P17s than the Hobby's, but just about 15fps faster in the P3.

Now was where the FUN Started! Got a wild idea about increasing fps as per procedure below.. ..After Loading Pellet:

1. Making Three "30% to 60%" Over Lever Action Swings in Very Rapid Succsession (1-2 seconds).
2. Quickly Open Over Lever "Very Briefly" for just 1\10th of a second.
3. Quickly Close Over Lever and Fire within 5-10 seconds!

PELLETS---------------------------P17#1----P17#2-------P3
RWS Hobby 7.0 WC---------------405---------415--------405
RWS Hobby 7.0 WC-M-----------420---------430--------420

RWS Meisterkugeln 7.0 WC------430---------440--------422
RWS Meisterkuglen 7.0 WC-M--444---------455--------435
-Above FPS readings are average of three-5 shot groups (15 shots each)-

As per my 500+ rounds shot these past 2 days, these M (magnum pumps) gave an extra average 15 FPS per gun, per pellet...Amazing!! This isn't something I will consistently repeat in regular target practice, just interesting to see the FPS increase in velocity. Did it make the final over lever closure harder...heck Yes! Got a weekly upper body workout in just "2" days!

P3 magnum? listed at 410fps, same as the standard P17 $29.95 for the Beeman P17- how good can it be? The stock P3 is listed at $229.99.

Good question Daryl (and the reason for this thread)! Forget about the P3 Magnum-Way Over Priced set-up!

The regular P3 does have better internal components, nicer finish, supposedly better reliability, posses a better 2-stage trigger and comes with a lifetime warranty (only to original purchaser)...but that's really about it. They shoot the same speed (or even a little slower) and have the same accuracy (possibly P3 a slight hair better) than the P17 MIC clone. Is it worth the extra $200...wasn't for me, till I found a good deal on the bay!!

After getting 150 or so rounds through the P3 using the iron sights, mounted my P17 Rio Rand Red Dot Reflex scope for an initial Shoot-Out with the P17...attached is the quick results! Both have 15oz triggers (P3 2-stage, P17 single stage), both sears break like glass, both handle almost identically (P3 safety switch is Stiff) and both load pellets - compress pneumatics equally! Was the P3 worth 4X the P17 price tag...IMHO...No! But, the P3 is a solid pistol and I expect it to outlast me, and my two boys!

Ted

Is this the same gun as the Beeman P17 or the P3?

That was messed up Todd... I bit b/c there is basically a mag version out there and I thought maybe Beeman started selling it...
http://tinyurl.com/ToddsP17Mag
No doubt a different chinese mfg so it may suck, but it's clearly the same stolen design.

I will try to post that P17 info soon for those who asked. It's just kind of a haphazard mess of info right now so I need to organize it somewhat. It's not complete either, but it's better than nothing.
The power and trigger mods are kinda like my springer guide mods, so basically just fixing flaws to make them like they should've been. The trigger is certainly nicer but only b/c it sucked b4. Power gains are small, but like a springer it depends more on how poorly the gun was working before. Mine is over 3 ftlbs but I forget by how much.
I have some ideas for an actual mod or two to bump power, but they're so far back burner it may never happen. I'm much more concerned about fitting an NP2 or Mrod suppressor on it b/c it's too loud for stealth ratting, like the one runnin ~ on my roof as I write this.

Daryl,

The Weihrauch HW 40 PCA and the Beeman P3 are identical twins. Weihrauch of Germany manufactures the "Beeman P3" (as far as I understand, just an over lever re-stamped "HW 40") for Beeman, who imports them to the NA markets!

The Weihrauch HW40 is the same pistol, from same German manufacturer, that Beeman markets as the Beeman P3. I think the production start date was late in 1998.

The Chinese copy started in 2004 as the Marksman 2004. It had some glitches such as a thinner plastic frame that caused "humping/bending" in the upper frame when cocked. The quality was improved and the product re-labelled the Beeman 2006. Then they changed the name again to the Beeman P17. It's a close copy to the P3 but don't expect parts to be interchangeable. Some screw sizes are different and the frame molds are not identical... but it's a very close copy.
