Used satellite view in google maps to range between landmarks around the cottage. Using a ruler and the scale at the bottom of the map, it works out pretty accurately (there's got to be a better way!). Anyway, between google maps and Chairgun I was able to hit an apple at 80 yards. Give it a try if you've got some space!

What did you use for a gun and scope to do this shot?

I used a mini-gun and no scope and smashed the table under the apple then went to the table and picked up the survived apple to eat....

Google Map is actually very useful now especially you have your data plan and keep online all the time...

Crosman NP .22 and a Hawke 4-12x40 Airmax. With CPHP's no less. Nothing special about the gun or the shooter, I was just impressed with how easy it was to range accurately.

I've been on the fence about buying a rangefinder, this may hold me over for a bit.

I used google map to set up my range in my backyard. Measured from my area where I shoot, to different locations. I got cops of trees at 40,60, 80M, Have to setup a 10, 25M marker.

Plus you can range find with a AO scope.

Like I said about the chrony app. App still doesn't replace the tool that was made for it.

If Im out in the woods, my cell phone is encase I get loss, or injured to call. Not going to waste data on range finding. When you can get a range finder for like 100$. I used it once, because I got loss walking around in the woods around my place. Cell phones randomly shut down when battery gets weakened, or weathered. I rather use it for what its intended to do.

We are just normal person that have no chance to touch the special or even military softwares... For the computing power human developed to nowadays, based on that, develop a software for a purpose is much easier than to make the special tool for the same purpose.

But on the other hands, the tools we can buy and use have been price lowered a lot vs years ago ( due to the same above reason )...

So, it's your choice to spend the money or use the free method and save the money for more necessary usage.

App is a new word... Many years ago beforw the smart phones, I believe they were all called 'tools' too ~ [emoji16][emoji16]

You must be one hell of a good shot! Don't think I could even see an apple at that range without a scope.

Right click on Google maps and select "measure distance".

Here's a pict of the types of ranges available in my backyard using the Google maps measurement tools.

Great yard for shooting. A bit for far for me to take off at lunch and trespass for a few shoots.

Good rangefinder for $100? Which one do you recommend?
