A friend has asked me to look at his Red Ryder which he says has "recently" begun to lose accuracy.

He says it groups, but sometimes sends a flyer.

I've tried it and I can't even get it to group at 10 yards. It is loaded with steel bbs.

Is there anything I can do to it to increase its consistency/accuracy. I'm concerned that if I take it a part I may have trouble
re-assembling it.

They are not known for accuracy.

Try cleaning the barrel or use a different BB brand.

10 yards is asking a lot of the Red Ryder. I have a new one and a very old one, they both shoot about the same accuracy wise. The vintage one actually hits a little harder, but doesn’t change the group sizes.

Both group at about 1.5 inches from around 5 yards. At 10+ yards, they start opening up to 2.5-3 inches with the odd flyer that could be out to 4 inches or slightly more. I’m using the standard Daisy silver zinc coated bb’s. I haven’t tried their match grade avanti bb’s as I don’t think they’d do much better for triple the price in a Red Ryder.

I was actually impressed with the level of accuracy. Figure if I can hit cans from 10 yards out that’s right where they are intended to be.

The closer the BB's are to the bore size, likely the more accurate they will be.

Do some measuring.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I've cleaned the barrel with not much difference. I found a Utube video about adjusting the trigger pull so I'll do that and then recommend to the gun owner that he try some different BB's.

try accuracy at 5 metres. This is the distance when shooting matches
