It looks lots of us here have the P17 ( HW40 / P3) ( maybe not only 1 but two or more P17 in the cabinet or the shooting beach [emoji16]). It's famous of its accuracy and the very good price ( this is for P17 only... lol).

I just found in the rifles, there is something very similar, the Daisy 953, however it is discontinued. But at a very good price tag, it is named as Target rifle and have same very good reputation on its accuracy too. Is that correct? Any previous or current owner of this rifle here can chime in and tell his story on the 953? I read many good about it this morning from the internet, any problem you met with your 953? ( Except the trigger... I knew that already lol)

I am making up my mind to get one. However this will be my first rifle purchase ( although I turned my 1322 and 2240 into carbines and won't turn them back into pistols), just want to know more about it before I set go.

The online reviews showed me the 953 is deadly accurate as a 10 meter target gun. I want to know anyone shot it for the farther distance ( we shot P17 for 50 yards right?! [emoji16][emoji16]), and if it will work as expected or dramatically change to the other gun?

Actually I like the SSP design every much. I hope the 953 will be working like the P17 with extended very long barrel and a shoulder stock. And its total length just almost the same as my 1322 carbine, so I think I will love this gun too, just to find some more evidence to make up my mind ~

Thanks guys for any input ~

953 are great guns. You could often find them for around 100$. They have a single shot tray or 5 shot mag. Stock is very comfy.

The fiber optic sights are kinda lacking. Than again I dislike fiber sights. But just have to open the lever and close it, and cock it and fire. It's much better than a P17.

Mine shot around 490 FPS with 7.9s and was quite accurate.

As you stated the trigger is stiff. But do believe the 853 were the same. Been awhile since I shot one of them. Kinda of a pain to take apart and the trigger mod Ive found really didn't help the pull. It was still a heavy pull after.

953. Very accurate. Trigger needs work out of the box, will never be good, but may achieve being acceptable. Too light and too short length of pull for me. I'm keeping mine cause ssp's rock.

Thanks ACE ~ there are so many great info contained in your link!

And regarding the trigger job, I remember I saw a post the link guy just buy another adjustable trigger part for Daisy 883 or 8xx which can be a direct replacement for the 953 trigger and no need to use saws, drills etc to modify the stock trigger... But I can't find that again right now... Maybe give me some more time to dig it from the browser history and I will post it here....

https://daisymspshooter.wordpress.com/2 ... art-1/amp/

It used the 888 trigger parts, 888-3 / 888-5 and 888-18 to replace the related parts of the stock trigger....
