Hi there!

I just came into possession of a really old Slavia 620. Problem is, it severely under-performs. When cocked, and a pellet inserted into the barrel, the pressure doesnt even get the pellet out of the barrel. When cocked and fired a second time, it spits out the pellet with less force than a spring loaded airsoft from Walmart. Knowing nothing of repair, or what to check for, I turn to you, the experts. Any ideas on what I need to do, or where to find the parts to replace? Based on my research, my suspects are the breach seal and the spring, but, like I said, no knowledge whatsoever.

Thanks!

You probably have a rifle with a leather piston seal, and I guess the breech seal is also leather. First off, get yourself some silicone or Neatsfoot oil, and put 8-10 drops in the transfer port, and 2-3 drops on the breech seal. Let your rifle sit upright for a couple days, and try shooting it again. It should shoot much better. If there's no improvement, then I guess you'll have to take it apart to have a look at the internals. But try the oil first, that may be all you need to revive it  Also take a good look at the breech face (where the transfer port is), if it's been ''carved'' by the locking wedge, you may want to smooth that for the breech seal to do its job.

BTW, the 620 is a real nice one to have! How's the stock? Is it sound? If so restore that beaut and shoot it!

Here are some images of the stock and what I assume to be the breech seal. It does look very dried out.

That stock looks very nice! And yes, it is indeed a leather breech seal. Some drops of oil should help it, and the piston seal, to get better.
