I snipped a few coils off the hammer spring with my 1740 which gave more shots per CO2; is there anything to do with the 1322 hammer spring that will bring any useful improvements?

Hey :)

There's not much to do with the spring, except if the valve doesn't dump all the air at ten pumps. I assume you want a bit more power, 1322 pistols usually shoots at high 300-low 400 fps as far as I know. If it doesn't dump all the air @ ten pumps, you can shim the spring a little, polish the hammer (and the inside of the tube where it slides) and use a bigger transfer port (the stock one from your 2240  ).

A thinner, longer bolt probe tip will also help to let more air flow, and at the same time could improve the accuracy since it will push the pellet past the TP, so the pellet skirt won't be deformed by the air shot. Also, be sure there's no air leaks between the valve port and barrel, I saw some peoples used Teflon tape to wrap the TP to help seal it. And polishing and de-burring all the air passages also may yield some improvements. Use your Chony to monitor your progress as you go, I like to get around 450 fps with a RWS Hobby 11 grains pellet, it keeps you on the ''safe side'' of the law.

This is only my personnal view on that, that would be interesting to see others opinion about it 8)

Cheers!

If you're of an experimental bent, you can clip 13-xx hammer springs and play around with retained air.
I've tried, and failed to arrive at a balanced second shot on retained air. There have been experimenters here that have come up with interesting results though- using a reduced number of "maintenance" pumps per shot on retained air systems. Search for "retained air" on the mods and repair section. Should come up with some interesting reading...
