I have been tasked by my local Fish and Game Protective Association to research the possibility of using an existing inside archery range, 40' X 120', for air guns and air soft as well as archery.

The concern is designing a safe back drop that is easily moved in order to accommodate both archery and air guns. Protecting the expensive archery butt is a priority. Also, the side walls have several large windows.

The archery butt will be a permanent wall made from closed cell foam and will be wall-to-wall. However, there is a large and easily accessible room behind this wall. Moveable pellets traps can be purchased or fabricated but our central concern is protecting the archery butt from stray pellets.

Can you recommend a specific backdrop? Is there a net that can contain stray pellets? Are there any safety concerns other than safe range rules? Are pictures available of your range? Do you have a foot pound limit for the guns?

I would appreciate any suggestions. I know there are ranges that accommodate both archery and air guns. I have not been to an air gun range so my experience is limited.

Any suggestions will be appreciated as I am struggling with this assignment.

Our indoor range is a pistol range that converts into a Archery. So cannot help really there.

Probably have to design it for all type of shooting. Prone, sitting, standing. So would need like a portable target box, and some sort of stands to sit it on. For the backing, probably plywood and carpet. You probably be able to set them aside when not in use.

Example of a target box ( steel plate on the back )

I use a .22LR bullet trap as one I like to recycle lead and second don’t like to pollute the local area with lead . We do have a lot of lakes and stream so in the area where I shoot .the traps can be bought at Walmart ... UJQ7SHIN1D
But the price is a little inflated . They do come ou for sale every once in a while at PA . You can also place a sheet of 3/4” plywood behind the trap in case your afraid you miss the box .

Not quite done collecting
