Well, here comes some .22 results....

Image

The same can, lower part after opened. And its competitor today is my non PAL HW35E.

As there looks no difficulty for the pellets (non wadcutters) to penetrate the bottom, additional test on the side wall afterwards...

Image

Test-2 followed the same sequence on the pellets from left to right (as first part test from up to down)...

Alloy pellets are always have the most penetration ability as It's the hardest and harder than lead alot (the Green just went through both walls easily even without shaking the can) . And softer pellets (like JSBs) have weaker penetration ability (bigger hole, couldn't go through the second wall) vs the harder pellets (like Crosman)...

It's all against the harder surface, not means skin and fat... Never do that kind of experiment and I don't have the special 'GEL' for that purpose ~ [emoji38]

It looks in close range not that big difference between the 480fps vs the 750fps... The ham can wall should be slightly thinner and the flat surface should take up the energy better than cylinder shape cans...

But I am pretty sure in a little longer distance, maybe like 15 yards or 20 yards, my gun couldn't shoot through both walls of a soup can... At least in just 9 yards, the Crosman domed (ultra magnum) and JSB RS already failed to do so... And in 66 yards, pellets from your 750fps gun just making a bigger hole...

Yes~ this is already been proved... So I actually planned to use one pellet (the JSB RS) to replace the some many different kinds of other pellets in my house... But looks a long way to go (to finish those pellets...)

Is it any grain dome pellets that fly the best or specific grain? I only tryed 14.3 grain and found they fly perfect

Usually lighter weight means faster muzzle velocity. And hitting power is a combination of speed and weight.

Did you use the Hawke Chairgun app before? It's very useful in calculating the energy. And it has most of the pellet data pre-loaded with the app, and a very useful one is the BC (Drag Coefficient). While you pick the pellet from the data in the app, it will use all this info plus the velocity and other data you input and give you the down range speed and energy at any spot you want to know...

And at last every gun is different... Even same brande same model same lot, they might like different pellets... So you need to try by yourself to find a good fit pellet for your rifle...

JSB is expensive than the Crosman, but surely have more consistent quality and should shoots better ( accurate) than Crosman. And for a same type of pellets (i.e. like domed), you will have many different weight and different size to choose from. Actually better pellet brand names will provide these choices... Not like Crosman, you get only one size, 5.50 and one weight 14.3 gr for all types of pellets under its name... ;-)

Your rifle shoots 750fps, maybe you would like to try some heavier pellets, like the 16gr JSB Exact Jumbo. In our forum store, you can choose 5.50, 5.51 and 5.52 size... If you feels tight when loading pellets into your rifle, you can try the smaller size, if opposite, you can try bigger size. And usually a little tight will be better than loose... And you can always use a pellet seater to seat the pellet deeper into the breech...

I find the ultra magnums have a tight pop when inserted into the barrel which to me feels like they fit perfect. I find the hollows ans pointed inconsistantly made and are extreamly loose in the barrel hollows better. Im sure they are all supposed to be 5.5mm poor quality control. And grain is just weight right i mean there all supposed to be 5.5mm in .22 barrel twists are all diffrent but they should all fit in the barrel breach the same and thats why i dont think they fly the same as the domes. Heaviest pellets i shot were 19 grain some type of premiers shot really well took a second to hit the target.

By the way, what's your gun?

19gr would be too heavy IMO for a 750fps gun... As your muzzle velocity would be dropped to 650fps or lower when you use that kind of heavy pellets...

And depends on how far you shoot, it takes time to reach the target... But due to the heavy weight, the impact energy may not be weak as you expected... The bullet from a super power anti-material rifle might take seconds to hit the target hundreds meters away but still can penetrate a very thick steel plate~ ;-)

But same, I like higher speed and lighter weight pellets as I shoot my non PAL guns indoor only and like to hear it hits right after I pull the trigger ~

Enough power for a good kill... But 30 yards looks a bit too far...

Sent you a pm~

I assume the 750fps was the advertised speed for your rifle, Raven, not the actual chronographed speed.
My HW98, advertised at 750fps in .22 provided the following speeds.

Crossman HP 14.43gr. - 680fps @ 14.8fpe
H&N Barracuda Hunter HP 19.09gr. - 603fps @ 15.4fpe

In this rifle, the H&H appears to be the more efficient pellet, due to the increase in FPE.
I did not chronograph the 16.0gr. Predator pellets, which have shown to be almost as accurate
as the H&H's, which are the most accuracy of all tested pellets in this rifle.

Note, with sub 12fpe air rifles, Sy Pittaway and his buddy Davie, both shoot bunny heads to 60yards
using break action .22's. With some practice, this HW should be superior in trajectory & power to their sub 12fpe guns.
