Budget Barrel Mounted Chronographs - Airgun Archery Fun

#1 Post by tman »

I saw these somewhere else, but never in Canada.

Probably not in the same league as FX Radar, but ...

They also have M10 threaded ones for things like PP800, Bandit, Chaser ..etc.

I have one of these which won't clamp to the barrel of one of my FX Streamlines because of the extra plenum length.

I threaded the inside of a plastic hose barb to 1/2-20 thread it onto the barrel and clamp to that. They work a treat.

Mine doesn't have the USB interface.

I slipped PCV tubing over the ubolt for attachment, and glued some inner tube rubber to the mounting V area.

I had one of these, brought from Ali express, it is working but a little bit off from my other chrony. However use as a reference is good and it is very portable to carry with shooting gears to the range

I have. It's great. Works like a charm. It's got a "scaling" function you can use to calibrate the device.

Say you have access to a pro level chrony and it says your fps is 480.
Then you take a shot with this chrony and it says 450.
You can set the scale to 480/450 = 1.07 and it will be accurate.

(Obviously it's better to scale based on a shot string and not a single shot, but you know what I mean.)

It will give you FPS and energy, but it doesn't take the pellet weight in grains. It works in grams.
For most of us, not a big deal. Some whiners might, well, whine about that, but who cares right.

Perhaps the chrony will get an update some day and switch to grains instead, but it's really no big deal for anybody that can operate a calc.

I really enjoy this unit. I don't know if it has wifi or an app, or if it outputs shot strings to internal memory. It has a USB connector for charging, and not sure if it also transfers data.

Very easy to use, but it didn't come with a manual. Odd.

Pros: Form factor, built-in battery, scale/calibration support and can output energy.
Cons: Lack of manual, non-standard use of grams instead of grains, which can confuse some novice shooters.

I have compared both of my AliExpress units to several high end chronographs with matching results.

I did caution that an ancient Webley Senior .22 pellet pistol is powerful enough to destroy the IR diode. No need to ask how. Thus the second one.
