You took bears with a 1911 .45 while on the job? That's one heck of a story I'm sure! I shot a few watermelons and baby coconuts. LOL. That's my 9mm (carbine) story.
The carbine equivalent to your 1911 I can think of is the Kriss Vector in .45ACP. That's pushing the price range I shop in already so I don't dare look beyond.

Yes, on the job. I used the 1911 on two and 5 different rifles on the other 6 "trouble" bears that fall. In following years, we had no bear problems, just that fall.
Thinking back and recounting the rifles used, it might have been only 7 total, but I did use one rifle on two bears, trying out different bullets.

I shot a 6 inch gong at 100 yards just to get the red dots close will get some paper out there this coming Saturday and see what they can do .I was used Winchester 115gr lot of jams In the rugger and the chiappa but not the S&W I had no problem with it.I also had federal 115 gr works fine in all the guns i had out there and hopefully the KODIAK DEFENCE K9 CARBINE i bought last weekend will be in to try out ........
