I sometimes come around to find powder cartridges for concrete nail guns at a ridiculously discounted price around my parts at the home box stores. I had the idea (certainly not the first) to build myself a board with Extra Reactive targets using them powder cartridges. It's as simple as it gets am i'm certain you can figure out the complexity- or lack thereof- of such a 'system'
It's a ton of fun, make sure the hole go thru the board otherwise they fly back and create a bigger hole than required in the board...
Enjoy!

Re: "Extra Reactive" targets..
Late to the party but nobody replied!!! These are great! Love it. If I find some cheap ones, I'll certainly give it a shot. I made some reactive targets with these :
I cut out each of the little red circles and placed them in a "plaster cookie" . The idea was that if you hit the bullseye, you get a prize .. a little "pow!".
It worked but not as spectacular as literally shooting blanks. I found myself wanting to shoot the plaster cookies with a big bore rifle so they explode instead.
These .22 powder cartridges for nail guns look like perfect plinking targets. ... with eye protection. hehe.

Those nail-gun blanks are 6mm aren't they? Really doesn't matter. Do you have them stuck into plasticine?
That set-tup looks like they would come back at you.

I've seen them called cap blasters, Thunder Caps
They are basically just plastic bottle caps with a built in nozzle so you can use a ball inflater.

You can make them yourself, hole in the cape to fit the pin and a tiny hole with a needle so the inner cap seal will still seal around the pin when you inflate then ooze out the cap to seal it when you pull the ball adapter pin.
But don't use valve stems from tires, they become bullets when these go off.
Keep water bottles under 80 psi (60 if your not sure of the bottle), the bigger plastic pop bottles can go upto higher.

If you go much over those pressures, they may pop when you don't want them too,
and believe me you don't want to be beside one when it goes off.
Hearing protection is recommended.
Don't shoot these inside your house.
If you dry out the bottles completely, flour or cornstarch inside can make a good display...
